I got my sweaty little hands on a leaked copy of the trailor for the Hobbit, "Smog Awakens" which
is due to be released in 12/2006. Yes, they are all there-Gandolph, Gollum, the ring, and Bilbo.
I think they could have done a better job on the trailor, but the unmistakeable quality is definitely there.

Accually The Hobbit would be a Prequil to the current films of the last 3 years in the LoTR trillogy.

Beging that no accuall work has began on the Hobbit I would guess it was a fake.

Peter Jackson wount be starting on this film till he's done with the remake of the 1930's version of King Kong.

Well, if it's fake it sure fooled me and everyone I showed it to. The clips they used are definitely not in any of the trilogy, and I have the two extended DVD sets of the first two including 45" of directors cuts.
And none of the trilogy had scenes of Bilbo being confronted by a fire-breathing dragon, or of a dragon attacking a village and setting it on fire, etc. Plus the scenes of the clips were definitely the original actors and were not in any of the trilogy. So I guess we will see.

I am a big fan of Tolkien. I've read most of his books more than once. Would love to see a film of the Hobbit with the Trolls and Smaug the Dragon etc !

There will be the Hobit and peter jackson will start working on it in 2006 because of his work on King Kong. I have talked with a alumni of my school who is an cgi guy for peter jackson's weta workshop!

I just heard an interview with Peter Jackson; he wants to make the Hobbit, and use all of the original actors that would be appropriate to the story, but there is some kind of legal technicality they are trying to work out. I dialed in in the middle of the interview. So I guess it's "iffy" right now.
