lifter arm
Lifter Arm – A curved bar, attached on one end to the bottom of the dog. The function of the curve in the bar is to get the bar's lower surface down low enough where it can be contacted by a "cam surface" on the ground between the rails that will lift the bar into the up-position. Once up, the dog will enable the axle set to contract. When the "cam surface" is not beneath the lifter arm, the arm can drop, in turn dropping the dog into the contraction-inhibiting position. It is likely that the dog and lifter arm were one piece, certainly after manufacture. It may have been fabricated as one piece by forging the curved part of the bar and then flattening the dog end. It is also possible that the two logically distinct pieces could have been forged separately and then welded together. In this latter case, the welding would necessarily have had to be done with forged welding rather than oxy-acetylene or arc welding, which did not exist until the late 1800s. There is an additional detail associated with the lifter arm that was identified by Bob Gormley – a lifter arm pad, shown in the front view detail above. After Bob pointed the pad out to me in a photograph, I found it in the Henz front view detail. It is not completely clear the pad was joined to the lifter arm – a fabrication question, however, there is a suggestion in the front view detail that the pad was curved longitudinally – possibly so that it would not scuff the cam surface.

skysolider, that would be a great picture to put in your picture topic. Hmmmmm, I don't see it, I thought you started one. Just start a topic in here, and add this picture to it, and you will have a place for your family pictures. Let me know if you need help.

Will do when I have the time. Right now it is the browser thing, cleaning out the gatrage and securing it. And going through Donna's pictures putting the ones I want on the HD and seperating others to different members of the family. She saved every scrap/note/pix etc.

cooking spaghetti
Hi everybody! I spent all last Saturday afternoon going through clothes (mine) with my sis-in-law Mary. We were going through saving the ones that are in good condition and at the same time we were tossing the ones that are worn out. I did not realize that I had so many clothes! I do know that I had so many that I could not fit them in the closet and those that couldn't fit there were hanging on a rack in the kitchen. I know that I will not hear "Jeannie, you need some new clothes" from Mama for a long time because she saw how many bags of clothes David carried out to her car. It seems that the clothes (all but six outfits for this week) are going to be all washed too--even the ones that were already clean. All the clothes but these six outfits are out at Mama's and Mary (my sis-in-law)
suggested that before we wash them, Saturday Mama and she and I will go through the clothes and organize them by T shirt, skirt, dress, jacket, and so on. Then I get to decide on what gets washed and kept. I know that I have quite a few ladies' T shirts and I seem to have quite a few in shades of green and orange. Saturday Mary and I tossed the stained and faded ones and we thought that we got all of them. This time I get to see just how many green T shirts that I do have. I would guess that I have 5 green T shirts.
