Interceptor, I noticed that you didn't rate/discuss BlackIce Defender in the readonly thread on firewalls.

I just went cable access, and am running an older version of Black Ice Defender. I don't mind paying the small charge for updating, but as long as I'm doing it, thought I would get your (and anyone elses) thoughts as to how good the new version is.

Problem with Zone Alarm, is that I see a lot of conflicts/problems with it in various forums. Makes me a little hesitant.

I would enjoy your thoughts.

That's because BI isn't a firewall. It's an intrusion detection system. BI acts only after it detects a connection, unwanted or otherwise to a system and then it takes the appropriate action. The purpose of a firewall is to prevent connections to a system or network in the first place. I don't consider an IDS a firewall (because it's not). There are many users who swear by BI...let'em. If it works the way they want it to and they're happy with it then I'm not one to sour things. I don't recommend it as a firewall tho.
