Don't Know Much

written by Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, Tom Snow
© 1980 EMI Blackwood Music Inc

Look at this face
I know the years are showing
Look at this life
I still don't know where it's going

I don't know much
But I know I love you
And that may be all I need to know

Look at these eyes
They've never seen what mattered
Look at these dreams
So beat and so battered

I don't know much
But I know I love you
That may be all I need to know

So many questions still left unanswered
So much I've never broken through

And when I feel you near me
Sometimes I see so clearly
The only truth I've ever known is me and you

Look at this man
So blessed with inspiration
Look at this soul
Still searching for salvation

I don't know much
But I know I love you
And that may be all I need to know

I don't know much
But I know I love you
That may be all I need to know

I don't know much
But I know I love you
That may be all there is to know

I really like this new cd by James Taylor I play it all the time. October Road
(James Taylor)

Well I'm-a going back down maybe one more time
Deep down home, October Road
And I might like to see that little friend of mine
That I left behind once upon a time

Oh, promised land and me still standing
It's a test of time
It's a real good sign

Let the sun run down right behind the hill
I know how to stand there still till the moon rise up
Right behind the pine, oh lord

October road
(repeat)

It's the big-time life that I can't abide
Raise my rent. Tan my hide.
Sweet call of the countryside
Go down slow. Open wide.

I did my time
And it changed my mind
I'm satisfied Oh.
I got so low down, fed up
My god, I could hardly move
Won't you come on, my brother
Get on up and help me find my groove

Keep me walking, October road.
Keep me walking in the sunshine, yeah
A little friend of mine
October road
(repeat)
Help me now

Marcia
I like James Taylor, too.

Lady In Red
From Into The Light
by Chris de Burgh

Year Released: 1986

I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight
I've never seen you shine so bright
I've never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance
They're looking for a little romance
Given half a chance
And I've never seen that dress you're wearing
Or that highlights in your hair
That catch your eyes
I have been blind

The lady in red is dancing with me
Cheek to cheek
There's nobody here
It's just you and me
It's where I wanna be
But I hardly know this beauty by my side
I'll never forget the way you look tonight

I've never seen you looking so gorgeous as you did tonight
I've never seen you shine so bright you were amazing
I've never seen so many people want to be there by your side
And when you turned to me and smiled it took my breath away
And I have never had such a feeling such a feeling
Of complete and utter love, as I do tonight

The lady in red is dancing with me
Cheek to cheek
There's nobody here
It's just you and me
It's where I wanna be
But I hardly know this beauty by my side
I'll never forget the way you look tonight

I never will forget the way you look tonight
The lady in red
My lady in red
I love you

Skid Row 18 and life.......MMMMmmmm back in the day
Memories of a tainted less cautious youth

Ricky was a young boy, He had a heart of stone.
Lived 9 to 5 and worked his fingers to the bone.
Just barely out of school, came from the edge of town.
Fought like a switchblade so no one could take him down.
He had no money, oooh no good at home.
He walked the streets a soldier and he fought the world alone
And now it's

18 and life You got it
18 and life you know
Your crime is time and it's
18 and life to go
(repeat above)

Tequila in his heartbeat, His veins burned gasoline.
It kept his motor running but it never kept him clean.
They say he loved adventure, "Ricky's the wild one."
He married trouble and had a courtship with a gun.
Bang Bang Shoot 'em up, The party never ends.
You can't think of dying when the bottle's your best friend
And now it's

chorus

"Accidents will happen" they all heard Ricky say
He fired his six-shot to the wind and that child blew a child away

this is one of Jello Biafra's (lead singer for The Dead Kennedys) side projects...it was originally intended as an anti-PMRC song...for those of you not in the USA, or too young to know...PMRC stands for Parent's Music Resource Center and is basically a government censorship group...it was founded by Tipper Gore (yes, wife of Al Gore), don't get me started on that meddling b****...however, i believe it's as relevant today as it was then, especially the last verse

how's this for interesting info: Lard has had several incarnations, including the following members (this reads like a who's who of industrial/punk)

Jello Biafra - Dead Kennedys, many side projects, founded the Alternative Tentacles record label

Al Jourgensen - Ministry, PTP, the Revolting Cocks, 1000 Homo DJ's (a send-up of "house music")

Paul Barker - Ministry, the Revolting Cocks

Jeff Ward - Low Pop Suicide, the Rovolting Cocks, Ministry, drummer for Nine Inch Nails '91 Lollapalooza Tour

William Rieflin - Ministry, KMFDM

Mike Scaccia - Ministry

Rey Washam - Ministry, the Didjits, Scratch Acid, early member of Jesus Lizard

some other Jello Biafra Tidbits
first artist EVER put on trial for the content of an album (The Dead Kennedys album "Frankenchrist" had a reproduction of an H.R. Giger painting featuring male genetalia growing from the ground (HRG is most famous as the designer of the alien in the "Aliens" trilogy))

in 1979, he ran against now-U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein (democrat - CA) for mayor of San Francisco...he captured 3% of the vote and so skewed the totals that the city council subsequently passed a law requiring all candidates for public office to run under their given "christian" or birth name...some examples from his platform: all downtown businessmen must wear clown suits between 9am and 5pm, legalized panhandling with a 50% commision going to state workers laid off due to "deficit caused staff reductions", legalized squatting of the homeless in all buildings left vacant for tax write-off purposes

artist: Lard
album: The Last Temptation Of Reid
Song: Bozo Skeleton

Here today, gone tomorrow
Don't need my self remembered
But what I help create and leave behind
Is important to me

To dent the comfortably numb
With constructive satire
Make my life one big prank
On a society I hate

All that we are when we're on a stage
Is Vaudeville jester for a day
As an old proverb sys
"If every fool wore a crown, we should all be king"

My license to make fun of everyone
Comes from knowing the biggest joke of all
Read a heaadline the other day
Clown dies from a pie in the face

Can't be on stage all the time
The public image could swallow my life
Living up to your own myth's no fun
Drives our best talents nuts

CHORUS
Bozo skeleton
Bozo skeleton
Bozo skeleton
Where can I go to be me?

Washington Stepford wives
Think we'd be Stepford children
If they could do away
With the music we love the most

Lyrics warp your children's minds
Just a minute now, that's our job
Your worst enemy's your own kids
Don't talk with them, buy our lies instead

Don't wanna hear Lee Atwater sing the blues
Got a right to sing my way too
Gagging those who tell it like it is
Won't make the problems go way

C'mon get the skeletons out of the closet
We're all clowns in one form or another
If we weren't hung up minding people's private lives
We might not be so afraid of ourselves
All kinds of drugs get fed into our heads
Who are you to legislate what's best
Never heard my music or read all the words
Is it my heart they want to ban

CHORUS

What y'all think?

Keep the Faith,

Lance

I know this is an old thread but you got me cracking up thinking of the Dead Kennedys! Their best album (yes I had it in vinyl) was In God We Trust Inc. Whole thing was about 20 minutes long but action packed. Another good one from this time period was the Plasmatics...
Robert Wellock
Bek performing Bogusflow (Live)

Monkey see, monkey die
Laminate your face and paste it up into the sky
'Cause it's squalid and it's solid
And it's completely rancid and beautiful
Like a forcefield of multiplying meat
Cut a hole in the floor to see
Just how close to hell we're standing

Time shoots forward in your skull
Scattered to the four winds, chucked in the bucket
Riding lamppost, mouldy toast, excitement level: zero

Rock the casbah, bring the noise
Amplified dishwashers exploring the boring to the core
People with cordless personalities
Running around in new wave bionic jogging suits

California white boy sound
Rocket-powered and nailed to the ground
New age, old age, totally lame
Straight to the middle of the road
Rewind the tape, play the whole thing backwards
With the sound completely turned off

from Whister to the Wild Water by Máire Brennan and Denis Woods, Follow the Word:-

Follow the Word
Follow the hope
Follow the dream

Willing to meet
Willing to go
Willing to share

Still grey skies will turn to blue
Under this banner of hope
Hidden stories on winding roads
I trust your ways

Is Tú mo Dhia, is Tú tá lán
do ghrá inniú domh
Is Tú mo Dhia,
is Tú tá lán
Do ghrá inniú domh

Follow the Word
Your action
Follow the hope
Your vision
Follow the dream
You gave to me

Willing to meet
The answer
Willing to go
The journey[i]
Willing to share
[i]My love for You

You sent from the Heavens
All that’s precious from above
Your breath from the Heavens
I will cherish all Your love

Sailing out in a gathered haze
Calling gently a new way
This banner of hope

Is Tú mo Dhia, is Tú tá lán

do ghrá inniú domh
Is Tú mo Dhia, is Tú tá lán
Do ghrá inniú domh

(You are my God
I receive Your love this day)

I think that it’s time to revive this thread, the song is French, and the singer is American.
L'été indien by Joe Dassin:

Franz Ferdinand - Matinee

You take your white finger
Slide the nail under the top and bottom buttons of my blazer
Relax the fraying wool, slacken ties
And I'm not to look at you in the shoe, but the eyes
Find the eyes

Find me and follow me through corridors
Refectories and files you must follow
Leave this academic factory
You will find me in the matinee, the dark of the matinee
It's better in the matinee
The dark of the matinee is mine, yes it's mine

I time every journey to bump into you accidentally
I charm you and tell you of the boys I hate
All the girls I hate, all the words I hate, the clothes I hate
How I'll never be anything I hate
You smile, mention something that you like
Oh, how you'd have a happy life if you did the things you like

Find me and follow me through corridors
Refectories and files you must follow
Leave this academic factory
You will find me in the matinee, the dark of the matinee
It's better in the matinee
The dark of the matinee is mine, yes it's mine

So I'm on BBC2 now, telling Terry Wogan how I made it
And what I made is unclear now
But his deference is and his laughter is
My words and smile are so easy now
Yes, it's easy now, yes, it's easy now

Find me and follow me through corridors
Refectories and files you must follow
Leave this academic factory
You will find me in the matinee, the dark of the matinee

Well, find me and follow me through corridors
Refectories and files you must follow
Leave this academic factory
You will find me in the matinee, the dark of the matinee
It's better in the matinee
The dark of the matinee is mine, yes it's mine

I Dont Wanna Be - Gavin Degraw

I don't need to be anything other than a prison guard's son
I don't need to be anything other than a specialist's son
I don't have to be anyone other than a birth of two souls in one
Part of where I'm going is knowing where I'm coming from

I don't want to be anything other than what I've been trying to be lately
All I have to do is think of me and I have peace of mind
I'm tired of looking 'round rooms wondering what I gotta do
Or who I'm supposed to be
I don't want to be anything other than me

I'm surrounded by liars everywhere I turn
I'm surrounded by imposters everywhere I turn
I'm surrounded by a identity crisis everywhere I turn
Am I the only one to notice?
I can't be the only one who's learned

I don't want to be anything other than what I've been trying to be lately
All I have to do is think of me and I have peace of mind
I'm tired of looking 'round rooms wondering what I gotta do
Or who I'm supposed to be
I don't want to be anything other than me

Can I have everyone's attention please
if you're not like this and that
You're gonna have to leave
I came from the mountain, the crust of creation
My whole situation made from crater, stone
And now I'm telling everybody

I don't want to be anything other than what I've been trying to be lately
All I have to do is think of me and I have peace of mind
I'm tired of looking 'round rooms wondering what I gotta to do
Or who I'm supposed to be
I don't want to be anything other than me

I DONT WANT TO BE...HEYYYY
I DONT WANT TO BE...NOOOO
I DONT WANT TO BE....I DONT WANT TO BE ANYTHING
ANYTHING OTHER THAN..MMMEEE YEA YEA YEA
I DONT WANT TO BE.... HEYY YEAA YEAA YEAA
I DONT WANT TO BE.... HEYY YEAA YEAA YEAA
I DONT WANT TO BE.... HEYY YEAA YEAA YEAA
I DONT WANT TO BE.... HEYY YEAA YEAA YEAA

Edit: Now got to one of my favourites on the album, Lift the Wings:

QUOTE
How can the small flowers grow,
If the wild winds blow,
And the cold snow is all around?

Where will the frail birds fly,
If their homes on high,
Have been torn down to the ground?

Lift the wings,
That carry me away from here and,
Fill the sail,
That breaks the line to home.
But when I'm miles and miles apart from you,
I'm beside you, when I think of you,
a Stóirín, a Grá.

How can a tree stand tall,
If the rain won't fall,
To wash its branches down?

How can a heart survive,
Can it stay alive,
If its love's denied for long?

Lift the wings,
That carry me away from here and,
Fill the sail,
That breaks the line to home.
But when I'm miles and miles apart from you,
I'm beside you, when I think of you,
a Stóirín,
And I'm with you as I dream of you,
a Stóirín,
And a song will bring you near to me,
a Stóirín, a Grá.

Tiny Dancer Lyrics:

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

Jesus freaks out in the street
Handing tickets out for God
Turning back she just laughs
The boulevard is not that bad

Piano man he makes his stand
In the auditorium
Looking on she sings the songs
The words she knows the tune she hums

But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can hear me
When I say softly slowly

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
you had a busy day today

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can hear me
When I say softly slowly

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
you had a busy day today

Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
you had a busy day today

Clint Black - A Good Run of Bad Luck

A high roller even when the chips are down
To win her over, Id seen the tables turn around
Shes ten the hard way, I can feel it in my bones
Shell be makin my day and not another night alone
til its time for a windfall and not a single moment too soon
Ive been too long overdue, now Im gonna shoot the moon
Id bet it all on a good run of bad luck
Seven come eleven and she could be mine
Luck be a lady, and Im gonna find love comin on the bottom line
Ive been to the table, and Ive lost it all before
Im willin and able, always comin back for more
Squeezin out a thin dime til theres no one hanging on my arm
Ive gambled on a third time, a fool will tell you its a charm
If Im bettin on a loser, Im gonna have a devil to pay
But its the only game I know to play, it doesnt matter anyway

Oceansize - Ornament/The Last Words (Mike Vennart)

Signs the signs invisible
Trace the trail and follow you wherever you will lead me
To the heart of me and your spilling grief
To answer to a God who never answers you
Feathernest invest and gain
Shiny brass is milk and grain
And yours is to just sustain and chip away with haste
Treasure time and savour taste
And all the while you quietly crave and crave
The day is done
Time you've made has come and gone
Stay asleep now
Everyone into position
Everyone into their place
Grow to grow at snail's pace
Like carnivores at grace
Feed to feed and building face
Pay to play and find a place.

I'm Scared
Burton Cummings 1976 (I think)
*****************************
Said I'm scared, an' lord I'm scared, I'm terrified
Never been much on religion but I sure enough would like to hear the call
I'm scared lordy, lord I'm shakin' I'm petrified
Never been much on religion but I sure enough just fell down on my knees

I heard the chior singin' something about good will toward man and even sleepin' in heavanly peace
Stopped by to see St. Thomas on a cold and dreary New York afternoon
Something in the air was Oh so rare, I don't know what it was but I know that it's still right there

Scared lordy lord I'm shakin I'm terrified
Never been much on religion but I sure enough just fell down on my knees

Livin' in confusion, searching for truth that I never found
I needed something to really believe
Looked toward the heaven, On a dark and stormy winter afternoon
Something in the air was oh so rare, I'm not really sure what it was but I know for sure that it's still right there

Scared, Hey,ey,ey,ey,ey,ey I'm terrified
Never been much on religion but I sure enough just fell down on my knees
Ohhhhohhhohh

And I'm scared you know I'm shakin'
I'm laying awake thinking about it now I'm terrified
Never been much on religion but I sure enough would like to hear the call
Come on now gimmee a sign you're listening to me,
You hear me talking, you hear me crying it's confusing to me lord I'm terrified
Never been much on religion but I sure enough just fell down on my knees

Ohhhhohhhohh
