I'm reading "Timeline" by Michael Crichton. Crichton is an amazing, talented SF writer I liken to Jules Verne. As a young man with a MD education, Crichton pursues his love of writing instead and makes his first mega-cult classic, "The Andromeda Strain".
Of all his films, I like "Westworld", dealing w/ the classic man vs. machine dogma, but also gave a view into computer viruses-long before they came into public awareness.
"Disclosure" puts a savvy backwards spin on the then new and scary sexual harrassment issue--and shows all too well how such a legal contention can--and is--being abused.
"Sphere" and "Timeline" are novels far better than their film counterparts; Crichton can't always produce a mega-hit.
I'm not a fan of TV medical drama projects, but of the few "ER" episodes I've seen, Crichton well puts his medical expertise to work. In many ways, Crichton parallels Verne in that his works almost seem prophetic.
"Todays Science Fiction is tomorrow's reality."
