Ok, put a quote in here and the next person tells who said the quote and puts a new quote in. smile.gif

"I'd marry again if I found a man who had 15 million and would sign over half of it to me before the marriage and guarantee he'd be dead within a year."
Carley
Hi Red.

I think Bette Davis said that. In case I'm right, I'll post this quote

"No one who can read, ever looks at a book, even unopened on a shelf, like one who cannot. "

AnnMarie
Charles Dickens

Forty years ago I was not so good-looking. A looking glass then lasted me three months. Now I can wear it out in two days.

Carley
Mark Twain

"Turbulence is life force. It is opportunity. Let's love turbulence and use it for change."

Marcia
I've looked and looked and haven't found the answer to that one, Carley. blink.gif unsure.gif
Carley
Hi ya Red Satin! Sorry you couldn't find the quote--Ramsay Clark said it.

AnnMarie
We need a new quote. Red, I hope you dont mind but I pinched your turn lol.gif lol.gif lol.gif

An optimist is a person who sees a green light everywhere, while the pessimist sees only the red stoplight. The truly wise person is colorblind.
Carley
Albert Schweitzer said that.

Hi Annie. Here's the next quote:

"Life is full of misery, loneliness, and suffering - and it's all over much too soon."

What does it mean if you see a yellow light, Annie? blink.gif unsure.gif
AnnMarie
Well Red, if its anything like the amber light on traffic lights here, it means put yer foot on the accelerator and goooooo (thats what it means to me anyway) lol.gif

Albert Schweitzer said that.

Hi Annie. Here's the next quote:

"Life is full of misery, loneliness, and suffering - and it's all over much too soon."

Woody Allen

Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace

Annie, it sounds like you do what a lot of people here do......... biggrin.gif

Amelia Earhart

Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, it's at the end of your arm, as you get older, remember you have another hand: The first is to help yourself, the second is to help others.
Marcia
Boy am I glad you explained that. I always wondered why we had two arms. biggrin.gif

Everybody is ignorant, only on different subjects.
Alfons
I often think of this poem at this time of year when I'm walking in the evenings by the lake with my dog. I'm not sure if I've got all the words right, but here's the start of it.

The day is done and darkness falls from the wings of night
As a feather is wafted downward from an eagle in it's flight
I see the lights of the village gleem through the rain and the mist
And a feeling of sadness comes o'er me that my soul cannot resist
A feeling of sadness and longing, that is not akin to pain
But resembles sorrow only, as the mist resembles the rain
Marcia
That's very beautiful, I looked it up and this is what I found.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. 1807–1882

The Day is Done

THE DAY is done, and the darkness
Falls from the wings of Night,
As a feather is wafted downward
From an eagle in his flight.

I see the lights of the village 5
Gleam through the rain and the mist,
And a feeling of sadness comes o'er me
That my soul cannot resist:

A feeling of sadness and longing,
That is not akin to pain, 10
And resembles sorrow only
As the mist resembles the rain.

Come, read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling, 15
And banish the thoughts of day.

Not from the grand old masters,
Not from the bards sublime,
Whose distant footsteps echo
Through the corridors of Time. 20

For, like strains of martial music,
Their mighty thoughts suggest
Life's endless toil and endeavor;
And to-night I long for rest.

Read from some humbler poet, 25
Whose songs gushed from his heart,
As showers from the clouds of summer,
Or tears from the eyelids start;

Who, through long days of labor,
And nights devoid of ease, 30
Still heard in his soul the music
Of wonderful melodies.

Such songs have power to quiet
The restless pulse of care,
And come like the benediction 35
That follows after prayer.

Then read from the treasured volume
The poem of thy choice,
And lend to the rhyme of the poet
The beauty of thy voice. 40

And the night shall be filled with music,
And the cares, that infest the day,
Shall fold their tents, like the Arabs,
And as silently steal away.

"Christmas Shopping: Wouldn't it be wonderful to find one gift that you didn't have to dust, that had to be used right away, that was practical, fit everyone, was personal and would be remembered for a long time? I penciled in "Gift certificate for a flu shot."

Dale Carnegie

"The unthankful heart... discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and, as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings! "

Marcia
Henry Ward Beecher

I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next.
Carley
What a great quote by Gilda Radner !! I like it.

"Some days you're the dog, and some days you're the hydrant".

Don't know who said it, but I like it. Here's one for you to name the author....

"Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea."

Marcia
I liked that quote by Gilda, too.

How true about the dog and hydrant one. smile.gif
