Full Version: Computers On Network Cannot Load Web Page At Same Time

I couldn't find a fix for this on a search... I have a home network that has always worked fine, but in the last few months, webpages will not load on two computers at the same time. Sometimes if you wait a few minutes the computer that wouldn't load will load, and other times you have to close the page on one computer and wait a few minutes before it will open on the computer that wouldn't open it. I have checked normal stuff like the ip addresses, etc, to make sure they were not trying to share the same number, but everything seems to be fine. My Iphone will not load a page if a home computer is on the network, but if I turn the wireless off on the phone, the page will open up no problem.

Thanks much for any help anyone has to offer. This is a new one for me.

If you use an Antivirus (and you should), is it McAfee? I ask this specifically because, until last week, I was running McAfee AV on my home PC, but I noticed my system bogged down. Thought about what had happened and remembered that McAfee did a major update (program as well as definitions) the previous week.

Uninstalled McAfee and my system was no longer bogged down. Installed BitDefender Antivirus 2009. My system is still purring-like-a-kitten.

I am running windows XP with the latest patches on all computers. Also running AVG 8.5.412 on all computers also.

can you describe your network's setup? is it with a router or ethernet switch hub? in the instance that both pc are simulteanously used for web browsing, one will be successfully connected and the other will not or maybe redirected to your ISP's portal? do these happened?

I have a Belkn N1 router with 2 desktops hardwired and I use a laptop that is wireless. All computers can be on the internet at the same time, when I go into settings all computers are shown with there own separate ip address. All computers can load up webpages at the same time, its only when a computer tries to load a webpage that another computer is using that problems arise. I have windows firewall turned off and I use AVG 8.5.412 antivirus on all computers and cannot find any firewall setting inside of the virus scanner that is causing this.

If the problem only shows up when two PCs are accessing the same internet page/site then it might imply that the problem is with the router's NAT (Name Address Translation) function. (Assuming you're using NAT ... you usually have a private address range on the internal LAN like 192.168.1.x)

You might like to try a firmware update for your router. Or try another router if you have one handy or can borrow one from a friend.
If the router is supplied by your ISP then contact them for support or a replacement ... they're more or less disposable these days.

I tried updating the firmware tonight, but it didn't help. I emailed the company to see if they have a fix, it's suppose to have a lifetime warranty. I hate to replace it because its only a year old and was $130 dollars, which isn't disposable to me, at least not this soon. Would the router setup page show all the computers ip address correctly if it was having a NAT problem?

we'd like to know the manufacturer, model and version of the router usually on a tag or on front of router. version is extremely important

If it's covered with lifetime warranty then you've nothing to worry about apart from a bit of downtime maybe.
If NAT wasn't working properly then yes it's is entirely possible that the DHCP table will still show the PCs connected correctly.
The problem being NAT-related is a pure guess but my instinct tells me it's a router problem for sure. Hopefully Belkin will be able to assist you.

Just for a update... Belkin sent me a new firmware update that wasn't on the site and had me do a hard reset and so far the fix seems to work. Just wanted to thank everyone for your help.
