Sorry, this might take a while to Explain.

I Joined this Site for this particular reason. For over 2 months now, I've been getting this connection problem, i never once had before.
Note: (Before i use to be able to play these games Perfectly fine.)

The problem is In certain games, like Rakion or S4league Ect.. (i believe these games are peer to peer connection). I can get in the game and everything, But i cannot connect to Anyone. I can join a room, i can also play in the game. But i just Can't Connect to anyone, Meaning everyone is frozen to me.

I will write all my internet information below and the things I've tried.

(Also some people may say its the game itself. But i have Many many many online friends mthat play this gae, and they all can still play perfectly fine, and i may include that its not just one game)

Note: (Downloading, uploading, browsing internet All works great) (Also Games like Crossfire or Combact arms, HoN, DotA, RuneScape All works, i can play and connect) only problem is sometimes i lose connection out of no where in Combat Arm and Crossfire and everyone freezes, which never use to happen.

Things I've tried
(I will make the ones that changed the situation or changed anything at all more noticeable, which i think there's only one that changed anything)
*Turned off modem and left it for over 30 seconds.
*Restarting
*Redownloading/installing the games
*Disabled Firewall
*Used Another Computer:I currently have 2 working computers, i hooked both up and tried the same games that do not work, Also I've Gotten a friend to bring his computer over to try and see if it works. Same problem still Occurs
*Port Forwarding: After putting in the correct ports in and successfully opening them. The game situation did change a bit. I am now able to see everyone move, But They can not see me. meaning i think i can connect with them but they cant connect with me.
*port triggering: using this turns off my internet conectivity
*Call the ISP
*ISP Checked internet connections: I've called my ISP many times, they all say my settings and Everything seems to be working correctly.
*ISP Modem Change: I've Gotten sick of them telling me my connection is fine. So i asked for modem change. They changed my modem to the same type of modem, and still the problem occurs.
*ISP checked my lines and all that other stuff: They say it seems to be working correctly, nothing Wrong with it
*Update Firm Ware Unsuccessful: I tried looking online for an update on my firmware, i could not find any for my type of router. I called my ISP and they say i can not update my firmware or anything of that sort. they all say the same thing i've called many times. supposedly it updates automatically.
*Line quality testing: Plz check this out Link below
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2556211
I'm not sure but to me it seems to be working fine.
*Speed testing: I tested my network speed from speedtest.net. It seems to be working fine, my download and upload speed is perfect.
*Connection change(uncertain what this really is): i was told to try this and see if it works, it didn't but. here is the site, i did the exact thing it told me to do. and i never changed my settings back as of yet. Link below
http://www.bungeholes.com/cpage-203.html

I believe this is everything i tried. And none of it seemed to work.
Currently i do not have a single idea of what this problem may be. In this proccess i figured out its not my computer nor the internet. So im confused.

Needed information

(this is information that maybe needed to help fix my problem)

*ISP name: Charter
*Router model: Netgear(wireless internet) CG814GCMR
Link below directs you to the model i have on the Netgear site.

http://www.netgear.com/Products/Routersand.../CG814GCMR.aspx

*Connection Type: Wired

*Computer i use: Vista Home premium
*Internet browser i use: FireFox
*As said above Same issue occurs on 2 other computers. Both xp.

Im not sure if this information will be needed but here it is.

Hey Joe (?)

Great post thumb up.gif if only they were all this detailed. happy.gif

Well, you've already eliminated the issue from your PC by testing on other PC's... This definitely sounds like a networking issue. Lets try to narrow it down some more to see where the problem is.

Given the info, it seems like you have a router connected to a modem from your ISP? something like:
Cable -> Router -> PC's

Is that correct?

If so, can you try to skip your router and connect directly from your ISP's modem to your PC? Another test i'd try (if possible) is to use your computer (hopefully a laptop tongue.gif) at another location, say... your friend's house and see if the issue persists?

This way we can eliminate some possibilities and narrow down the cause.

Also.. i noticed nothing for the output of netstat? how about netstat -an?
And has anything recently changed around the time the problem occurred?

Thank you for your reply PolishPaul, i appreciate it

My Router is not separated from the modem. I'm sorry for not stating that above. So i can not try this, however i do plan on buying a gaming router for 100$ and switching my router i currently have to a modem. Too see if its just the kind of modem i have, or anything. and i hope this works. but i wont be able to try it for about another week. and im hoping i can save 100$ from having to buy a router for a method that im not even sure that will even work. that's why i signed up for this forum, Thank you again for your reply.

I have tried my computer at a friends house, and the internet does work there. so i we can narrow the possibility down some more.

To answer "And has anything recently changed around the time the problem occurred?"
Umm.. idk how to really answer this question. so if my answer is not the one you were looking for, i apologize.
If u mean by games and internet stuff, only thing that changed was the games that i play. i can browse the net, download and upload. so nothing changed from my net browser just certain games that take alot of bandwidth i guess.

Although, Im pretty positive this wasn't the cause of my problem but a few days before the internet started going whack, a power outage occurred. So, this can somehow be related? But it worked for a couple days after the power outage, and than stopped, that's why i didnt say anything about it.

netstat and netstat -an

First of all, sorry i made a mistake in my diagram, it should have been:
Cable -> Modem -> Router -> PC(s)

2nd, what recently changed is just a general question to see if perhaps an event occurred that may have contributed...

I'm sorry, I'm also not clear on your statement "and switching my router i currently have to a modem" So going back to the diagram, you simply have a Modem/Router combo from your ISP right? Like
Cable -> Modem/Router -> PC(s) ? is that right? What model is it?

And also, you mentioned that your friend's internet works, but to be precise, when you took your PC there, did your game work? i'm trying to determine if its your network or PC. If you take it to your friends house where his games work, and your games on your PC work as well, then we need to start looking into your network and firewalls.

Additionally, do you have any firewall software (or network security software) installed? When playing these games, you can temporarily try the following: turn off windows firewall or any other firewall software you have. Stop the IPSEC service. Also, log in to your router/modem and disable the firewall. Then test. This way we can quickly determine if its one of the firewalls that's interfering. Once done, make sure to turn it all back on biggrin.gif

I'm sorry for not being clear, Im new to this stuff, i never had a problem before, until just recently.
Cable -> Modem/Router -> PC(s) Is correct. The model i have is
Netgear CG814GCMR, Connection Type is Wired.

Link below directs you to the model i have on the Netgear site.

http://www.netgear.com/Products/Routersand.../CG814GCMR.aspx

Sorry for not stating this in the other message, My game did work when i went to my friends house and tried it.

I have tried disabling firewall before. And i just tried it again. And unfortunately, it still doesn't work.

Thank you for your reply and help i appreciate it.
PolishPaul
no need to apologize, you're giving good info smile.gif

Welp, given that the game on your PC worked fine at your friends house, we've narrowed it down to your internet connection, thus your router.

So now, we need to look further into the router settings. Have you turned off any firewall or protection services there? BTW, it looks like a fine model so i'd refrain from spending the $100.

You may wish to try this: first save your router's config. Then do a factory reset of all the settings. This way if something goes awry, you can restore the config file. I couldn't locate the manual for this model, but if you have a link, let me know.

Thanks for the reply, umm.. the router settings is where u type the ip on the browser right?
I've looked and looked and have not yet to see anything related to firewall, im not sure if mine has it or if im just looking in the incorrect place. And thanx for the tip, i probably will refrain from buying the router, u seem like u know what ur doing. we'll probably ably get this fixed in no time. thumb up.gif

I will try that, \i'll look it up or get a friends help for that. once im able too. its not necessary that i do it right now is it? as long as i do it sometime in the future?
PolishPaul
hehe, of course, do it at your convenience smile.gif
