Belkin wireless router F5D8235-4 (N+)
XP (SP3) using the N+ USB adapter - forget the model number.
It registers 270 Mbps.

My Vista (64 bit SP1) is using a N USB wirless adapter (I think F5D8053)- as the N+ USB adapter does not support 64 bit (way to go Belkin). But Vista is getting 120 Mbps.

Any idea why?
Any settings I need to re-configure in Vista?
I was told that the speed should be the same with the USB adapters.

Thx

is there a difference in distance from the router between the 2 machines, electrical interference, wall or floor thickness, etc. etc.
sethm1
The 2 machines are only 2 feet apart from each other.
The router is downstairs - about 20 feet as the crow flies - if he/she could fly through the floor.

what happens if you switch adapters?
sethm1
Per the Belkin website, the N+ F5D8055) thats on the XP is not 64 Bit compatible.
so no driver to install onto the Vista.

And if I just swap the 2 then my internet connection on the Vista (w/the N+) is gone.

i'd ask belkin if there is a difference and/or what can be done to bring the adapter up to spec.
sethm1
Yeah, that is my next step.
I was hoping to avoid - its either the language barrier or they go thru a check list & I am already 5 steps ahead of them.

Well Belkin says I'm good since I have a connection.
The N+ products are faster. But since N+ USB adapters currently do not support Vista (64) then as I have the N USB adapter & that I can connect to the internet, then nothing to do - except wait till Belkin comes out with a new driver.

The N+ products aren't that new. And surprised Belkin did not come out with a 64 bit when they hit the store shelves.
The N's are older- so surprised they have a 64 bit version.
