Hello,

I have recently moved to Chicago from Fairfax, VA and am trying to find employment. I know the economy is bad, but I can not even receive a phone call for help desk postings that only require a high school diploma. I recently enrolled in school and have completed my introduction to networking class, but had to stop attending classes when money was running out. In addition to the classes I have taken I have also built my own computer and installed the software. I have also set up three different home networks that where very basic in nature, but could share the files between them and print from any of the computers. I have been out of work for about 10 months due to a death in the family. I lost my nine year old sister and became very depressed; my doctor would not release me to return to work and I was terminated for medical reasons when FMLA ran out. I currently check each job board in Chicago on a daily basis. I would like to work in a help desk environment because when I build up some more money I will be going back to school and will like to gain the experience while attending classes to put me ahead when I graduate. I have also been looking for working in retail, dock work, data entry, and construction all fields I previous experience in. I am not looking for some here to give me a job, I am just looking for advice as to where else I can look. I would be very grateful for any advice that the community can share.

Thank you

John

I see that you are familiar with the job boards already; now try to check the employment agencies in your area and see if they can find you work, which will most likely be temp positions but it's a start anyway.
Here are some job boards that you can look into, and where you can upload your resume and create daily job agents where jobs can be sent to you via emails:

Thank you for your reply Dino. I have already contacted the temp. agencies in the area. There recommended using friends to find a job as a in because there are so many people looking for work. Unfortunately all of my friends work in different service areas, as waiters, and at Home Depots. I knew checking here would be a shot in the dark, but have tried everything else. Hehe, I even applied to the local grocery store for a job just to get some money coming in. Luckily for me, I have a one more shot in the dark. A family friend is a recruiter and took a copy of my resume and is comparing it to the jobs he is looking to fill. He told me will take about 2 weeks because of the holiday and he is going out of town to see his family. When he gets back if he is unable to help me then I am packing up and heading back to mom and dad's in Arizona. Again, thank you for taking the time to look at my post and offering some suggestions. I have not used jobcircle, so that is a new site to check. And will be doing so after I finish posting here.

Thank you,

John
