vista is installed but not without a glitch as is my usual luck. first try locked at finishing installation, hard shutdown, then setup wouldn't continue. looked like vista thought it was installed, couldn't restart setup. man i was cussin a blue streak. booted acronis boot CD, formatted the vista install partition, ran setup and it installed fine. had to install video drivers, chipset drivers. this is vista 64 home premium and it's fast and very smooth. sort of steep learning curve but a bit easier after changing start menu and folders to classic view and turned off UAC. now the drudgery starts, all those programs to instal. still have to get scanner and tv card software installed. so far so good.

Don't buy it - try to get it free if you can swing it. M/Soft is hoisting Windows7 on the public this time next year, and Vista will go into M/Soft's trash bin where all it's other dead cash cows end up. You might investigate Linux Ubuntu, but there will be some studying to do.
