Hi everybody! Last week (Thursday) Mama and I went to Office Depot (among other places). While at Office Depot, I purchased a CD of Monopoly Here and Now. The operating systems that it is compatible with start at 95, but then they go to XP and on the back of the jewelcase it says that this version is Vista compatible. However, I don't quite believe them because I have played this game (or tried to--it hangs when a trade between the two A.I. players is being proposed and sometimes it hangs when I am visiting the summary where I can see which property each token has so I'll know who I want to trade with. I have 6 gigs of RAM on my computer. My hard drive is 750 gigs. I have a quad core processor. The speed mentioned for it is 2.6 gigs. The DVD drive meets the requirements for the correct speed. I have contacted the manufacturer, Encore Games, and they said to update my video driver. My drivers are all up to date. I checked today. pull hair.gif

According to Microsoft that game is compatible with Vista:

I’d say before you purchase any of this games you should do some research on them, and also you can try them before you buy them to make sure that you don’t have any compatibility issues:

Thanks for replying Dino. I did do the research before buying the game. I had even downloaded a trial version of it and that worked fine. That is why I was so surprised to have trouble with the game CD I purchased. I checked out your link and you are right. It is compatible for a 32 bit system running Vista. I neglected to mention that my system is 64 bit. I checked out the info on compatibility with 64 bit Vista at this same site and the word is unknown so far. Thanks for helping. How is your weather today? It cloudy and damp today. I wish for the sun and warmer weather. sad.gif

have you checked for game updates.

Yes, but there were none. I have spoken to someone at another software
manufacturer and he told me that particular game was not made for Vista, even though the packaging says so. He told me the game I bought was Vista-ready instead of Vista compatible and the difference is that sometimes Vista ready won't work on Vista. He recommended another version which I am going to purchase. I have earlier downloaded a trial version of this game (Monopoly 2008) and it worked fine. Thanks again for your help.

There are two other things you can use to run older games which often helps (been here done this sort of thing for me.)

Both include going to the link for the executable that actually starts the game.

Now I'm not on my Vista Machine but here is a screen shot of the tab you will need.
First off you may select a compatability Mode. Yoou can select all the way back to Windows 95. First off use the newest version you can. Also it is often simply a matter of turning off visual themes and desktop compisition. These often interfere with older versions of the software.

Also on the same tab within the properties of an executable (or even the shortcut to the executable) is at the bottom there is the option to run as administrator. This is not done even if you are the admin to the system and logged in as such as a security precaution. Do not do this unless you are sure of the program you are running. You do this to some corrupted file from some site saying run the free tool to fix your system or play this free game (two of the biggest tricks out there to trap honest people) and you open up your system to almost anything. However I've some games that will only run if the run as administrator is checked.

You may still be able to run your older version successfully with either or even both of these methods.

Thanks Nightshade for the screenshot and the help. I will try what you suggest.

Hopefully Nightshade's suggestion will work for you; as for the weather, well, we are in the icebox here in New Jersey until further notice. Say maybe late March or early April; depends on how nice winter is. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Hmm I forgot that issue. The 64 Bit is a bit touchier and actually a bit more "secure" as it is even pickier what will run. My friend runs 64 bit for his machine as thus far has managed to make almost any app run.
