My New Year's Resolutions for 2009

1. Stop procrastinating.

2. Have the house all clean and organized so that Mama and I can celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas here.

3. Go to the post office every week to get the mail.

4. Have my hair cut regularly.

5. Start wearing makeup and perfume again.

6. Begin exercising with Little Bit.

7. Take out garbage every week.

8. See that birdbaths are clean and have water in them.

9. See that birdfeeder is clean and has food in it.

10. Cut down the weeds that are growing in the patio. Afterwards, put Round Up where they came up.

11. Treat Little Bit for fleas if she needs to be treated for them.

12. Be sure that Little Bit has clean dishes to eat and drink from.

13. Make sure that Little Bit always has fresh food and water. Keep a bottle of water in the refrigerator for her. Dogs like cool water. (I know this, because my last one loved it)

14. Begin to teach Little Bit to walk correctly on a leash. After she learns, take her for a walk every day that the weather is nice.

15. In the spring, begin leaving Little Bit outside. (I have a fenced yard so she can't get out.)

16. Concentrate on working on one room in the house each week even if you only do one task in that room.

17. Begin depositing money in my long neglected savings account. Try at least $20 a month.

18. Start a Rainy Day fund. Each week deposit the money in a safe place here until you have a set amount such as $500.

19. Start a fund for redecorating. Deposit something every week.

20. Start a "I Want This" fund. This fund is for something that you especially want and would make good of, but the price is too high to manage on your present income or you may have the price, but the money you would have used should go somewhere else (electric bill, grocery bill, etc.) Deposit at least $10 a week in all these funds. Keep them in a safe place here and do not ever "borrow" from them. If you do, you will have to replace any borrowed money double.

21. Buy a lawn mower.

22. Hang up two new birdhouses and the green butterfly house.

23. Take better care of shrubbery and flowers. See that they have enough water.

24. Straighten the landscape logs that border both flowerbeds. They have gotten out of line.

25. Fill in the low place outside the gate. Also fill in any low places in the yard.

26. Buy fresh mulch for shrubs.

27. Prune shrubs in the back of the house (these shrubs were planted by somebody else. They are nice bushes. They are also taller than the roof of my house. They are supposed to be 3' high.)

28. Sweep out storage house.

29. Remove boxes that contain things that should be in the house. Put them in the house.

There is lots more that I could add, but everything has to do with decluttering the house and then cleaning it, so I'll leave that off because it was all included in Resolution 2 where I said I resolve to have the house all decluttered, cleaned, and organized (and decorated) so that Mama and I can celebrate Thanksgiving here. I will post my progress here. I will also start a Works document on my computer so that I can keep up with how I'm doing.

Hi,
Well done on being so positive ... for me another year still undecided about what to decide to do!!
Have a look at this free project management prog. It lets you break down tasks in to small manageable chunks making the whole picture less daunting.
Hope this is of interest?

Here is my progress so far on my New Year's Resolutions for 2009

Resolution 1--Stop procrastinating. I am doing pretty well on that. The early part of January I would say my progress was excellent, but I have began to put things off again so this one needs more work.

Resolution 2--Have the house all clean and organized so that Mama and I can celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas here. As to the progress of this one--so far I have filled 10 33 gallon trash bags, I have tossed two computer boxes, and I have cleaned out the refrigerator.

Resolution 3--Go to the post office every week to get the mail. I have not been able to do this due to the weather, but I've gone to the post office each month. Going to the post office every week will have to wait until winter goes away .

Resolution 4--Have my hair cut regularly. I have not done this because of the cold winter.

Resolution 5--Start wearing makeup and perfume again. I have not started wearing makeup again, but I have worn perfume a few times.

Resolution 6--Begin exercising with Little Bit. This one will have to wait until the weather warms up.

Resolution 7--Take out the garbage every week. I have done this.

Resolutions 8, 9, and 10 will have to wait for spring.

Resolution 11--Treat Little Bit for fleas if she needs to be treated for them. I checked and so far she doesn't need to be treated.

Resolution 12--Be sure that Little Bit has clean dishes to eat and drink from. Done.

Resolution 13--Make sure Little Bit always has fresh food and water. Keep a bottle of water in the refrigerator for her so she will have cool water. Little Bit always has fresh food and water now. Right now, she prefers water from the tap instead of from the frig, however. I guess that's because of the winter.

Resolutions 14 and 15 will have to wait until spring.

Resolution 16--Concentrate on working on one room in the house each week even if I only do one task a day in that room. Started off great, but I have neglected the house for several weeks. However, I'm not giving up.

Resolution 17--29 are for spring and in some cases for very late winter.

February Update on 2009 Resolutions

Here is the update for February on my 2009 New Year's Resolutions. I have not done as well as I had hoped, but I'm not giving up--I'm starting all over starting today. thumb up.gif

Resolution 1--Stop procrastinating. It seems that I have slipped back into my old habit of procrastinating so as of today I am stopping this.

Resolution 2--Have the house all clean and organized so that Mama and I can spend Thanksgiving and Christmas here. Along came the winter and the unusually cold weather and I convinced myself that I wanted nothing more than to sit in my nice easy chair in my nice warm house and watch television. I did this and accomplished nothing. I am stopping this habit of ignoring the housework and watching television as of today.

Resolution 3--Go to the post office every week to get the mail. I have not done this, partly due to the weather. I tried to get to the post office once a month. This is going to change. I will (weather permitting) go to the post office at least once a week. Then when the winter is ended, I know I can keep the resolution of going to the post office every day.

Resolution 4--Have my hair cut regularly. I have done better on this. I had my hair cut this month and I plan to have it cut next month.

Resolution 5--Start wearing makeup and perfume again. I have on occasion worn some perfume since I posted last. I will do better in March.

Resolution 6--Begin exercising with Little Bit. Last time I posted I said that this resolution will have to wait until the winter goes away. However, the weather is forecast to be warmer next week (in the low 70s and the yard needs some work so we'll try to get outside in the yard.) The shrubbery needs trimming and there are twigs and a limb in the yard that needs to be taken care of so we'll get out next week if the weather gets into the 60s or 70s.

Resolution 7--Take out garbage every week. I had done this. I need to go through the house and take the garbage out again.

Resolution 8--See that birdbaths are clean and have water in them. I'll check on that this week. The birds are coming in now and the weather is warm enough in the afternoon to be outside.

Resolution 9--See that the birdfeeder is clean and has fresh seeds in it. I have birdseed already. I will clean the feeder this week.

Resolution 10--Cut down the weeds that are growing in the patio. Then put Round Up where they came up. I'll do this either this week or next week.

Resolution 11--Treat Little Bit for fleas. I will do this next week. I have checked and so far I have not detected any fleas, but she is a black doggy and being treated for fleas will do no harm but I want her to be outside when I do treat her for fleas.

Resolution 12--Be sure that Little Bit has clean dishes to eat and drink from. Wash them out every morning.

Resolution 13--Make sure that Little Bit has fresh food and water. Keep a bottle of water in the refrigerator for her.

Resolution 14--Begin to teach Little Bit how to walk correctly on a leash. After she learns, take her for a walk every day that the weather is nice. I will do this in the spring.

Resolution 15--In the spring begin leaving Little Bit outside if the weather is nice. (I have a fenced yard so she can't get out in the road.)

Resolution 16--Concentrate on working on one room a week in the house. Work every day in this room and do not skip a day. Even if you do one thing in that room, that's something that wasn''t done before and soon there will be a clean decluttered room. I'll have to start this all over again beginning as soon as I can.

Resolution 17--Begin depositing money in my savings account. Try for at least $20 each week. If you can't deposit $20, deposit as much as you can. Do not deposit this money one month only to withdraw it the next. That accomplishes nothing toward saving. I'll start this in March.

Resolution 18--Start a Rainy Day fund. Each week deposit money in a safe place here until I have a set amount such as $500. This fund will also be started in March.

Resolution 19--Start a fund for redecorating. Deposit some money every week. I'll start in March.

Resolution 20--Start an "I Want This" fund. This fund is for something that I especially want and would make good use of, but the price of the item is too high to manage on my present income or I may have the price, but the money for the item should go somewhere else such as the bills that are due on the first of the month (electricity, water, gas, phone. This would also include the grocery bill.) Deposit at least $20 or more in this fund and also in the Rainy Day fund and the Redecorating Fund. Keep these funds in a safe place here and never "borrow" from these funds. IfI do I will have to replace double the amount borrowed. I will start these funds beginning in March.

Resolution 21--Buy a lawn mower. I'm looking, but I haven't seen any lawn mowers out yet. If I don't see them this week, I'll go to the store in March and ask about them.

Resolution 22--Hang up birdhouses and butterfly house. I have to do this next month.

Resolution 23--Take better care of shrubberry and flowers. See that they have enough water. I have been watching them. I'll start watering in March or maybe this week if the weather is warm in the afternoons.

Resolution 24--Straighten the landscape logs that border both flowerbeds. They have gotten out of line. I'll do that this week or sometime next week.

Resolution 25--Fill in the low places outside the front gate. Also fill in any low places in the yard. This is for March.

Resolution 26--Buy fresh mulch for shrubs. This will be in March.

Resolution 27--Prine the shrubs in the back of the house. This will be for March.

Resolution 28--Sweep out storage house. This is a task for March.

Resolution 29--Remove boxes containing things that have been packed away since 2006. Take these boxes inside the house to the rooms that they belong in and unpack them and put the things inside in the rooms where they belong. This is another task for March.

This is an up-to-date post on my progress so far on the 2009 New Year's Resolutions.

I hope all your Resolutions work out for you Jeannie...

I can't wait until I can get outside and clean up all the branches from the trees. The way it looks, it'll be April before I can get out in the yard. There's still snow out there, and it's cold, when it does warm up, the ground will be too wet, it'll take a couple weeks of nothing but sunshine to dry things up.
Jeannie
Hi everybody!

Well here I am again. I didn't fall off the face of the Earth after all. Winter came and it got cold here and was toasty warm in my nice easy chair while I let the New Year's Resolutions go until Spring. Unhappy surprise the rain that came with the spring and wouldn't go away. It rained for three weeks in March and also in February and a little in April. Don't get me wrong. I like some rain and I know that we need it but not day after day after day and week after week especially after the not so nice extra cold winter that we had. Anyway, I am going to start again with the New Year's Resolutions. Today I am starting really small. I began cleaning out a drawer in the kitchen. I have wiped it out (this morning) and I intend to go back and go through the contents of this drawer that I removed to see what belongs there and what does not. I know that my nail file does not belong there. I thought that I had lost it. I also found 63 cents in the drawer. I put that in my bank with the rest of the change. How has everyone been? Fine I hope.

Jeannie
Hi again everybody!

I have made great progress on Resolution #1. In case you've forgotten, Resolution 1 was to clean my house so that Mama and I could celebrate Christmas here this year. Since she has gone to assisted living, it is not quite the same and Little Bit can't be with us because dogs aren't allowed. I am going to surprise Mama with this (having the house all clean and Christmas celebration-ready). Here is what I have done so far:

1. Cleaned out the drawers in the kitchen. I removed the contents and wiped out each drawer. Then I discovered that some of the contents was trash which I tossed and I also discovered that some of the contents belonged in other locations so I did not put these things back in the drawer. I am putting them in temporary place on the counter until I get a little further along with my cleaning. After removing the contents of each drawer, I wiped out the drawer with a damp paper towel and then let the drawer dry. After the drawer was dry, I replaced the contents that belonged in this particular drawer.

2. I cleaned off the counter between the refrigerator and the range. When I did this, I found my digital camera. It had been in a box that had been on the counter. I am glad to see that camera again. It is going to stay in another safer place.

3. I cleaned off the top of the range.

4. I cleaned off the counter between the range and the sinks.

Now I have to remove what is in the drainrack and after that I must remove what is on the cabinet between the drainrack and the wall. Then the cabinets will be all cleaned off at last!

Jeannie
Hi again, everybody!

I have been working very hard on cleaning so that Little Bit and I can celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas here with Mama. I have tossed a lot of the trash. I have discovered that I am going to have to go through the house more than once. I have worked in the hallway, the bedroom, the living room, the bathroom, and the office so far. All of these rooms and the one area (hallway) are to the stage "second time through".

1002richards
Well done and keep up the good work!!!
Jeannie
Hi everybody!

I have been working very hard on Resolution 1 which is to have the house in shape so that Mama and I can celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas here.

I have 6 rooms and three of them are what I call "second time through stage". This means that all the clutter is gone from them; the only things left are the furniture which belongs in there and other things which belong in other rooms. These things will, of course be taken to the rooms that they belong in the next time I visit the rooms in question. I have been working on the dining room and all clutter is gone from it. Today I am setting up what I call "Put Away" boxes.

These are boxes that I will put the things in that belong in other rooms. Then I will take the boxes to these rooms.

Well done ... once again!!

Jeannie, I would say move these boxes outside the house and make room for new “things,” what do you think? laugh.gif laugh.gif
Jeannie
Actually, Dino I do have more boxes in the storage house that have more things in them so what I will do is to put the misplaced things in the correct rooms and then unload the storage house and see just what I need. I know that I have too much stuff. smile.gif Or like you say, I can put the boxes outside and make room for new "things". smile.gif
Dino
It’s always hard to let go and I can’t blame you for this as I am too guilty as charged, for example, why am I keeping a shirt that I can’t even wear due to size limitations? That’s a question that I will never get to answer. laugh.gif laugh.gif
Jeannie
You are right Dino. For instance, I need to go through all the clothes I have and try them on and really be honest and say "Will I ever wear this?" because I have things that are three and four sizes--
and I don't know exactly what I have to wear (just for instance) since I have three closets full of clothes (nobody needs that many!--or at least I don't because I don't wear all of them. In fact I had forgotten about most of them until my sil suggested I wash all the clothes.) Why? They weren't all dirty. Only a few of them were, but my sil has a weird streak sometimes so I washed all the clothes and now I have all these clothes I don't wear and I don't even remember when I bought them. (I didn't buy them in some cases--either Daddy or Mama did and I wore them once, maybe twice and then hung them in the closet.) We both need to work on letting go of stuff. smile.gif I guess almost everybody does. smile.gif
Dino
I don’t think that this will happen to be honest with you laugh.gif ; but how about donating the extra things that we don’t need? I’ve been thinking about this for quite some time now.
Jeannie
Hi Dino,

I think that you have an excellent idea. Let's donate all the stuff that we don't need! thumb up.gif
