Hi,

I have recently received a message that there is limited or no connectivity to my desktop PC. It is connected via an ethernet cable and the connection is visible but not sending or receiving any data. I have tried connecting the cable to my laptop, and it works fine. I have also re-formatted the PC to see if that would solve the problem and still no luck, any ideas??

Thanks in advance

Ping your NIC to see if properly configured:
START
RUN
type CMD, Enter
type: PING 127.0.0.1

If properly configured, your NIC should return several packets. Also check under the listing, "dropped packets", it should be zero. If nothing is returned or a failure notice, it is either misconfigured or dead. Rarely will reformatting fix a misconfigured network setup.

  • what do you mean reformatted your PC? Did you reinstall? Reimage? Restore?
  • What changed in your environment?
  • Please make sure there are no physical obstructions in the jacks, look carefully.
  • System specs?
