Here is how my pc is set up. I have Comcast High speed internet service. The cable comes from the wall, goes into a Zoom cable modem which is then split by a Belkin Router Gateway to the PC while the other line goes to the 360. This is a wired connection. I downloaded Windows Media player that the xbox reccommends to use. Everything seems to work like it should. It streams music from the PC to the 360 and I can view the pictures that are stored in mydocuments/my pictures file. When I went to try and play some of the videos that are in my videos section, the xbox said that I needed to download a program so it would be able to play the videos I believe it mentioned something about Itunes. I downloaded the program on the 360 and the videos now show up on the 360 but they have a red circle with a slash going through it before the title of the movie. The videos show up similar to how they do on Youtube where it's just a snapshot of the first scene of the movie. When I try to play the video it says improper codec cannot play video and than gives a link to xbox support to which of course I cannot find any info. Any ideas if there is a way to get around this? The recording device I use to to record the videos is a digital camera with a video option almost like a cellphone. It will record video clips that at max last 5-7 mintutes. The camera looks older and I don't recall the brand. Is it possible the format that the camera records the videos in is not compatible with the 360?

what video format are the movies, .mov, .wmv, .avi?
macgyver
it says type of file video clip

probably can't see the file extension because they're hidden.

to unhide file extensions
open control panel
open folder options
click the view tab
uncheck the box next to "hide extensions for known file types"
click apply

maybe then we can figure out a viewer or codec for that file type.

Ok did that here is what shows up... The videos that I uploaded from the digital camera show up in mydoc/myvid section as .AVI files. Videos that I edited using Windows Movie Maker show up as .MSWmm and there is one that is now showing up that wasn't before and thats a .WMV

Another problem I seem to be having is Youtube tells me to export these files to a certain file type in order for them to be uploaded. I cannot find any export option on the Windows Movie Maker. Once I import them to WMM they seem to saved in that style and cannot be changed or exported.

mswmm and wmv (windows media video) files should be viewable in windows media player. avi files may need avi codec. media player classic will display almost any video/audio format. it's free and open source. really fine media player.

you'll find everything for your pc here:

y'all may need to convert the mswmm files to avi or wmv. i've never used wmm so can't say what it's capable of.

cool I got them working now, I just need to change them to WMV files which I found it does automatically after saving the finalized video. Once they are converted to WMV files they play both on the 360 and Youtube. Thanks for helping
