I have a laptop on vista and pc on XP within a LAN.. When i try to map the vista local drive on the XP computer it maps correctly however when i try to access the drive on the XP PC it does not allow me access (Access denied error message pops up).

I beleive i have the file sharing settings and user settings set correctly onn the Vista because it allows me to map individual folders on the Vista local to the XP but not the entire drive it self.

Can anyone help me resolve this issue?

Cheers

i suspect there's a security setting to not allow access to the root of vista. perhaps login from xp as the vista admin will allow access.

Google search for "vista admin share" reveals:

hey wait.. i think i had the same problem!

In summary, the article states that the admin shares are there, but vista prevents admins to use admin powers over the network.

I think the short solution is to specify a share and users (make sure the user is on the box and has permissions, which it seems you got)
