My wife dropped our laptop, and now the hard-drive is not responding, recognized, or even found in the BIOS or the Hitachi diagnostic program. I've decided to replace it, but I want to double check that what I get will be compatible.

My laptop is an ASUS F3JC-AP053M. Laptop profile at Newegg.com
It came with a Hitachi 80GB 5400RPM SATA disk, model # HTS541680J9SA00... but I can't find that specific model anywhere. I'm not insistant on replacing with the exact same or even necessarily a similar model, but I do want to make sure I get a hard disk that will actually run on my laptop. So, browsing Newegg.com, I found several 2.5" laptop hard drives, but I'm not sure about compatability. Are any of the HDDs on my search results incompatable?

Thanks in advance
Dino

any sata 2.5" laptop hard drive will work. they're all made to the same laptop specs. windows 2000 sp2 or later, windows xp sp2 or later or windows vista will recognize almost any size. the only thing to consider is rpm. 7200 rpm will lower battery life considerably.

Come to think of it, I'm almost positive that the current drive is not the one that I got when I origionally bought the laptop. I've sent it to Asus for two warranty fixes and one contract maintenance after I dropped it, and I'm pretty sure that they replaced the HDD in at least two if not all three maintenance sessions. I think it was origionally a Samsung.
