There is nothing malicious showing in the log. I'd like to take a closer look to see if there's anything hidden from HijackThis. Download SilentRunners.VBS to your desktop and run it there. Wait for the prompt that the scan has finished, otherwise the log will be incomplete. Post the log here please.

Yes, you did it right.

There is no malware showing, so we can rule that out. I've read your thread in the XP forum and can't see what could be causing the problem. beatsme.gif

I see you have a scheduled task for AppleSoftwareUpdate. As the file appears to be missing, I suggest you go to Control Panel, open Scheduled Tasks and delete that item.

As all else seems to have failed, it's worth scanning for a rootkit (hidden infection). Go here and download GMER to your desktop (download link is bottom left of the page). It will perform an initial scan when you run it. Click on Scan once it is ready, then click Save after the scan. Save the LOG file and post it here.

Can you tell me why it wont let me add a attachment?

HKEd
What is it you want to attach and how large is the file?

What is it you want to attach and how large is the file?

The 1st 1 is a message that says

you have used the system configuration utility to make changes to the way windows starts.
The system configuration Utility is currently in Diagnostics or selective Startup mode causing this message to be displayed and the utility to be run every time windoes runs.
Choose the Normal Startuo mode on the General tab to start Windows normally and undo the changes you made using the System Configuratin Utility.

click here to not show this message or launch the system Configuration Utility when Windoes starts

and

System Configuration Utility
General
Selective Startuo is checked

process SYSTEM.INI File checked
Process WIN.IFI file checked
Load System Services checked
Load Startup items has a box in that box

Launch system Restore or expand File

those are what is there when I reboot

That's the message you normally get after using Msconfig (I think Surfer asked you to disable some startup programs using it). Just put a check in the small box, click Apply and OK. The message won't show again.
