Hi 'Kid ... as much as a pain as this seems, you are on your way to learning how to take care of your own computer. This is realtime experience.

There is a pinned post HERE with some testing suggestions that you might find helpful.

First, remove and reset all peripheral cards including video cards, wireless NIC, etc. Remove and reseat your memory. If you have more than one stick of RAM, try to boot using only one (to reduce variables).

Use the jumper on the mainboard to reset your BIOS settings back to factory default, just in case it got corrupted through handling (see your mainboard manual). You can reset your CMOS back to proper settings later.

Run the (free) test on your memory outlined in the link I provided above. Let it run for 20 minutes, should be enough.

If no joy, do a repair reinstall of XP (no need to totally reformat again, just choose the second screen offering to repair XP; do not choose the Repair Consol).

Try these to get started and post back how its going.

Well, I dont have an XP cd. I found a Vista cd, would that work?
ranchhand
No, don't do that. Vista and XP are two different operating systems. Question: if you just built your own comptuer, how did you install Windows XP on it without an XP system disk??
flammablekid
my friend had an extra XP cd so he gave that to me...but it gave it back to him after i finished installing it on my computer...thats why im going to go get the cd from him today or tomorrow. I called one of my techy friends up and he said that once i get my XP cd to just click on repair when it boots up and click on check disk or something like that. Does that sound right?

What I said here in an earlier post:

Here is a good tutorial, print it out and use it: Repair Reinstall XP

Remember that using your friends disk buys you 30 days (i think), and XP shuts down if you don't call Microsoft and activate. And if your friend already has activated his copy, you are out of luck.
