Full Version: Vista Won't Permit Me To Save A File!
Suggest A Fix PC Support Forums > Operating Systems > Windows Vista

This is outrageous. I go to save a file and the message comes up "You don't have permission to save in this location"

I googled and found someone who said "this is because by default Notepad (and pretty much every other program) doesn't run with Admin privileges. So if you right-click on the Notepad shortcut, then select "Run as administrator" you would be able to save the file". Wrong, that doesn't work.

I had been told that Vista has huge problems. From the standpoint of everyday use, they don't get any huger than this. If no one knows a fix or administrative setup for this, I'm going to think about sending my less than two week old Vista system back for a refund.

uac needs to be disabled. that defeats all the security vista has.

run "msconfig", go to the Tools tab, scroll down and select "Disable UAC", then click the "Launch" button. After a reboot you should be able to save files to the C:\ folder.

hey surfer, thanks so much thanks.gif that did the trick.

sounds to me like you're real knowledgeable about vista. i haven't had any replies to my topic about vista requiring multiple clicks to effect a file or directory deletion, so i thought i'd ask you.

To delete a directory, it's necessary to
1) Select the directory
2) Hit 'Delete'
3) Hit 'Yes' in response to "Are you sure..."
4) Hit 'Yes' in response to "You need to confirm this operation"
5) Hit 'Continue in response to"Windows needs your permission to continue'

do you know if this can be reduced to just hitting Delete and Yes? or even skip the confirmation altogether?

thanks again thumb up.gif
