Hi dagenhamdave...start by downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to the desktop.

* Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
* When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
* When installation has finished, make sure you leave both these checked:
o Update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
o Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
* Then click Finish.
* MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
* On the Scanner tab:
o Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected.
o Then click on the Scan button.
* The next screen will ask you to select the drives to scan. Leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
* The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
* When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
* Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
* Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
* The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

NB - If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process and, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Ive been using Spybot search and destroy since last night - that got rid of a load of issues which my Norton Virus/anti spware had not seemed to prevent

Should I install anything else long term to keep safe?

Somebody at work just got the same e-mail and opened it... I don't know if it was a coincidence, but they also got what Symantec is calling Trojan.Srizbi, which has a fierce rootkit... and sent out a lot of spam. You might want to try running F-Secure's Blacklight http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/ if malwarebytes doesn't detect anything....

When I got infected it also added into mine trojan.blusod this turned screen blue with an error message telling me I had malware - strange thing (or not) was that my BT Yahoo Norton virus/anti spyware allowed all this onto my system so Im not that impressed by it.
Anyway - I seem to be working ok now

I thought better safe than sorry and ran that f-secure link above. Totally messed up the sytem and it wouldnt start - so had to remove it in safemode .Im going again now and its not that fast -this is whats running now.Is there anything I oght to do to clean things up -seems to be alot there.
Sorry _im no expert on this.

I need you to uninstall Spybot Search and Destroy. It prevents necessary changes being made. You can reinstall it once the computer is free of infections. Reboot afterwards.

Download Deckard's System Scanner to the desktop (the download link is in the centre, about 2/3rds of the way down the page). Run Dss.exe and post the log it generates.

Ive just got up this morning to see that my Norton has detected and removed trojan.srzisbi
-this seems to have occured after I visited that site mentioned by the person above because it was not found on the overnight scan yesterday

In BrettG's defence, there is nothing wrong with either the F-Secure program or site. It just wasn't appropriate for the infection on your computer. Any problems you had with Blacklight were the result of an infected system, nothing more.
