about two weeks ago I performed a scandisk/ defragmenation for routine pc maintance. I did this in safe mode as I've done for a very long time. Both functions were completed successfully. But as I restarted it I came to find that I only had 16 colors, appeared as as if still in safe mode without being in safe mode. I also lost my cursor but later recovered it through add/hardware function in control panel. While in display properties, couldn't find more options than the bare 16 colors for display. It appears I lost color options. I don't know if this may have something to do with my problem but about 6-7 months ago I deleted a SoundMax program that had something to do with the pc's audio performance. Previous pc owner installed this program so I don't have access to it. Also I'm using operating system WIN ME. So after analyzing what I've stated, would recommend I replace a component in the pc or would you suggest a web site I could visit to download something that woulod enable me to have more color options? I've also tried to update the SVG located in the device manager within the SYstem portion of Control Panel but no dice. I rebooted pc but still can't find more color options in display color quality and screen resolution. Can you help?

hi kb
sounds to me like video drivers have been corrupted or uninstalled and windows is running in vga mode. could be a bad video chip too but best to try drivers first. what's the computers make, model and serial number?
