hello, im new to the forums, and i want to ask for help

i have a windows xp laptop, and it freezes very often. even pushing ctrl+alt+del freezes the PC.

so naturally i decided to scan for viruses, but the scan freezes aswell, at a specific file located in C:/Program Files/HP/Digital Imaging/bin/
i have pinpointed this directory, but it seems that several files here freeze the pc,
and i cant delete them, hovering the mouse over them freezes the pc, (and sometimes throws out a 00000000x04 error (its a damaged hard drive error)

so now i decided to use check disk utility to scan for bad sectors, but it alse freezes when reaching this file.

then i decided to use the recovery console to delete it, but it says acces denied when entering this folder

Can I do anything to fix this PC?? I really don't want to format it

any help? please??

You can try uninstalling/reinstalling HP products on your system (I am guessing a printer), but you mentioned in your post that you’re getting a bad hard drive error. If you are sure about that, then it’s only a matter of time before it crashes and becomes inaccessible; so I’d say back up all of your important data and think about a replacement hard drive.

i would consider that the only real fix.

for now i reinstalled the xp, and imagine that even the normal disk formatting froze at 21%!!!

i formatted the disk in quick format, and installed xp on that, now i will pray to god that it wount touch that bad sector.

Just make sure that you don’t have anything important on that hard drive; as recovering data from physically damaged hard drives can be a bit tricky and expensive.

If you still have problems, try the Volume check utility; R click on C in Explore, Properties, Tools, Check Volume for errors. Enable the two checkboxes, Fix Errors and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors; Windows will flag any bad sectors and will not access them anymore; it that is your problem, this should take care of it. If your hard drive is failing, then you better back up all your data now while you still can.
