hi,

this is my first post, i'd really appreciate some help.

a friend asked me to install an IDE CD ROM on his machine (replacing his old one) ive done this plenty of times so i said ok

i installed the CD ROM simply by replacing the old one and using the same IDE cable.

windows booted up fine but it wouldn't write to the CD ROM

i thought this was because i had it set to master and it was on the same IDE cable as one of the two IDE hard drives. So i took it out and set it to slave but still no joy.

(heres where i think i went really wrong)
i then took out all the IDE cables and decided to give the CD ROM its own dedicated cable. i put the other two hard drives on the same cable.

now windows wont boot at all, the monitor light does does that flashy thing like when theres no signal going to it.

now i took away the CD ROM and decided to figure out which of the hard drives was the C drive to boot from I'd try them in all the possible combinations.

no matter which way i put it, it still wont boot, not even a splash screen.

please help as i really wanna fix this for my friend i really hope i havent damaged the hard drives beyond repair cos i cant really afford to get him a new computer. im freaking out here. lol

any help will be greatly appreciated

thanks

1st of all what the OS? Win98, WinXP or Vista? , Motherboard, CPU Intel or AMD, what is the name of the harddrives in question (name: WesternDigital ect...) and what is the name of the CD-RW in question?
