hi, im not that newbie in PC reparing but you can say i'm short on needed prog'z & hardwere

so here is my setuation, i recently installed new Hard Disk to my laptop (120 GB), installed windows normally and everything was great

since my Laptop battary is dameged im using the power outlet to keep my laptop running, so what happend is my cusion keep playing around the outlet and shutted down severl times.. on the 4th time when i tried to start up the laptop, it goes to the XP splash screen for 8 or 9 seconds and then it goes to blue screen and restart.. keeps doin' it every time

i re-installed my old hard disk (40 GB) with my old xp still in it and it was working fine, plus i connected the new hard disk (120 GB) as an external & it is working, so i want to repaire the Windows xp on the 120 GB as an External, and i dont have my backup CD right now and im despret.. can u help me

[UPDATE]: about the 120 Hard Disk, i re-connected it and made my pc slower, i thought it was normal since the reason i changed the hard disk is the slow RPM, but when i opend the Computer Management it shows the First Partition with the OS is blank, like no data and even no format system for it (NTFS), but the second partition in the same HD is working just fine with the data in it...

please people i need at leaste to extract my data from it, does MiniPE or WinPE work with it?

So - is there any reason why you created two partitions on a single 120 gig HD? Your cousin messing around is not going to create a separate partition and nuke your operating system.

So - do you want to try and fix the boot loader, or do you want to extract your data off the hard drive?

[comment]: I just love it when people post for the first time begging and pleading for help and then don't have the manners to post back with, at the very least, an acknowledgement. It's really encouraging beatsme.gif

Amen to that.

so anyway, i found the problem and fixed it.. no thanks to you guys..

I found my XP cd installation and i used the recovery, first thing i did is BOOTFX so it can read the format system, then i used CHKDSK /R and took 2 hours to recover, now its working like a charm

The point is that someone cared enough to help you with your problem; it may not be the proper solution, but at least someone volunteered his time and effort to help you. No thanks to us is not a nice answer; so no thanks for your attitude.

Notice that I did not give you a fix for your problem; I asked the proper questions.

With Bootfx you fixed the boot loader, which is what I would have told you how to do if you had the courtesy to post back politely. My comment holds true. By the way, what you mean is the run command FIXBOOT, not Bootfx. Bootfx is an open source .net framework that is currently being developed.
