Hello Everyone,

I've got an issue that's got me perplexed. My gf has an old Acer 3003 Wlci laptop that whose battery wouldn't hold a charge any longer. I bought her an aftermarket battery that worked fine for about two weeks. After that I couldn't get the battery to charge so I bought a new power adapter. That worked great for about two days and then it wouldn't work any longer.

So I concluded that the issue was the DC power jack on the mb. I bought a new one and soldered it on the mb. Now the battery charges perfectly but the laptop won't power on.

So power is going into the mb via the dc power jack and it is making it's way into the battery but not the rest of the components on the board. Has anyone dealt with this issue before or have any ideas for me?

My guess is that the mb is fried or that I'm overlooking something. A new mb for this system is hard to find and expensive, 60% of a new laptop and simply not worth it.

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

P.S. the power LED's on the front of the laptop light up when the battery is in and the power adapter is plugged in but they don't light up when the battery is out and the power adapter is plugged in.

Seems to me that the issue really happened after the new pwr jack was put on the MB. Surface mount soldering can be a real pain I would look for a bad solder connection and possible cracks in the trace going to the DC jack from the MB. I have repaired a bunch of TV's and usually the issue with old equiptment is the solder connections at stress points.

I agree that the real issue started after the soldering was done and you are spot on, soldering is (at least for me) a giant pain in the neck.

I'm nearly positive the issue is with the board. A cheap replacement would make this an easy fix, unfortunately I'm having a difficult time finding the board anywhere at anything close to a reasonable price.

It's a Hannstar DAOZL5MB6C2.

After going over the soldering points on the dc power jack I managed to get the laptop to boot under battery power although it still will not power on via the ac power adapter. So if I take the battery out the laptop will not power on.

In fact when I plug the power adapter into the dc jack on the laptop the green light on the power adapter goes out. I'm assuming there must be a short somewhere that causes the ac adapter to turn off.
