Can a Moderator please move this topic to Viruses, Trojans, Spyware and Browser HiJacking

Hi m.chan92. Yes, you computer is infected. Download Deckard's System Scanner (dss.exe) from here to your Desktop. Close all open applications and windows, doubleclick on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts.

When the scan is complete, a text file will open. Copy and paste the contents of this log (Main.txt) in your next reply. Also post the contents of Extra.txt (it should be minimised on your taskbar but if not, it can be found in the C:\Deckard\System Scanner folder). You may find that the maximum characters allowed is exceeded when you post. If so, halve the logs and make several posts.
m.chan92
Ok so i installed the deckard system, and HijackThis, but every single time i run deckard half way through it says windows has encountered a program and deckard shuts down. what should i do? also im on a windows XP and i was on a different user when the pop up showed, so i switched to a different one so that i could run this deckard program, is that OK?
AnnMarie
No it's not ok. You must run Deckards on the infected account.

Try this if it still shuts down. Make sure dss.exe is saved to your desktop and go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following command and then click on OK.

"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /config

When the DSS Configuration display opens, click the "Check All" button. Next, under Main Log, uncheck the following:

System Restore
Temp Cleanup
Backup Registry Hives

Don't make any other changes at this time. Then click the "Scan!" button to start the scan.

Once the scan has completed a textbox will appear. Copy and paste those contents back here (main.txt). Also a second text file, extra.txt, will show as minimized in your Task Bar. Open it and copy and paste those contents back here along with the main.txt please. (The logs can also be found in the C:\Deckard\System Scanner folder).

Try running Deckards in Safe Mode. To do this reboot your computer and tap F8 continuously as it reboots. Follow my last set of instructions now.

I see this operating system has not been updated since Service Pack 1. Why is this?
HKEd
Moving topic as requested. smile.gif

Thanks HKEd. smile.gif

deckard still won't work in safe mode. and i guess i forgot to update my computer from service pack 1... i never really noticed until now.
AnnMarie
Once your operating system is malware free, you must upgrade to at very least Service Pack 2 and preferably Service Pack 3. See here for information from some manufacturers regarding SP2 and here for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) Support Center. Your OS is a malware magnet in it's present state and we will not continue to help people that will not help themselves. Do not update yet though. Doing so could further compound your problems.

Firstly, download, unzip and run LSPFix.exe from here and remove od3mdi.dll from your winsock layers. In order to do this, click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox and check all instances of od3mdi.dll (and nothing else). Then move all checked files to the "Remove" pane and click Finish and reboot.

When you have done this, download the latest version of Combofix.exe from here and save it to your Desktop.

Doublecheck that combofix.exe is on your Desktop and go to Start > run and type:

cmd.exe

and click OK. A command prompt will open. Copy and paste the below string after the prompt> and hit Enter.

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /NoOrphans

The scan will start and when it completes, a text window with your log will open. Please copy and paste that log back here.

A caution - do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed. The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop.

NB Please disable your antivirus program as it may interfere with ComboFix's routines.

Copy this log in your next reply together with a new Hijack This log.

So i did what you told me and ran combofix and i let it scan for about 30 minutes and it deleted several files, but it wouldnt restore my desktop, so i had to reboot my computer.
AnnMarie
Post the log please. You will find it in your root folder (C:\ComboFix.txt).
