when i play video off of youtube or other video sites, it plays for a few seconds then stops. plays some more then stops. sometimes the video stops but sound continues for a few seconds the the video quickly speeds up to catch up with sound.

when i 1st got my computer around new years the videos play fine with now slow down or stop. once i started have the slow down and stop problems i came on this site and someone suggested i upgrade my RAM. i did that. went from 256 to 768. once again the videos played fine, but now i back to the same problem.

today is sunday and i'd like to watch some videos. I there anything I can do right now to help speed up the videos until I have a chance to upgrade my RAM again.

My system is currently:
wds xp home
version 2002
sp2
The computer is:
Intel®
pentium® 4CPU 1.60GHZ
1.59GHZ, 768 MB of RAM

i have Avanquest Fix It Utilities 8 proffesional, running in the back ground. I installed this some time after i upgraded my ram to 768.

i also have Embarq online security running in the background. This installed with my DSL internet service.

Can Someone Help Me For Today? hello.gif Thanks in advance
jimholly
Sounds like your system may be getting loaded with garbage. Do you run any cleanup programs like CCleaner? The usual problem with streaming play 'stuttering' is a poor internet connection, but with DSL you shouldn't have that problem, unless something else is eating up your bandwidth.

Hi Purvis,

I had your exact problem several months ago running 1GB RAM and on board Video.

I purchased a Video Card (Nvidia GE Force), updated my RAM to 2GB with no problems ever since.

Your RAM is low so perhaps you could start with adding more as it is relatively cheap these days. Have you onboard Video or a Video card?

How many processes have you got running in the background? Click Control/Alt/Delete and the process tab to find out.

Keep us posted. IPB Image

I ran out of computer time sunday, but today is tuesday and I have 49 processes running in the background right now. Not sure if i have a video card or onboard video.

hello.gif Purvis,

Here is a link to Check your Processes running. 49 running sounds a few too many to me, I have 37 running Windows XP/SP12&3.

Regarding information to access about your system, suggest download SIW.exe which will tell you all you need to know.

Keep us posted how you go.

kind regards,

purvis

I used the fix it utilities that I already had installed to clean the registry. That helped a lot but now the task manager keeps showing 100% cpu usage and causes my computer to freeze. Will keep working and see what else i can clean out.

Caution is paramount when touching the registry cry.gif if you are not sure what you are doing. I do not recommend any Registry Cleaners as you can make your system inoperable if not experienced.

keep us posted,

Tallin has some good suggestions. In addition, a 1.6GHz processor, especially Intel which is slower than an Athalon (it is an older processor, I am not talking about modern dual and quad cores), is borderline for running movies. More RAM, less Processes and a video card will help. However, don't spend too much money on an older system...
