hi

I just tried to start up an old computer that has not been powered up for about 2 years. It just has one long beep ,,,,beep... and that is it. There is one red LED on on the mother board.

I think it has Windows 98 on it the last I recall......

Not sure but could it be the shiny battery the size of a nickel on the board is gone dead ?

I did leave it plugged in now for about a week....no difference.

Nothing comes on screen either.

is it fixable ?

yes sir sure could be the battery.

Depending on the BIOS, that particular beep pattern could indictate that the memory chip is loose in the slot, or went bad. Check to make sure that it is seated properly.

Like ranchhand mentioned, the beep pattern varies depending on the bios. Check which kind of BIOS you have and you can google the BIOS' beep pattern
