Full Version: Cannot Increase Sound Volumn On Vista Windows Movie Maker :( Help!

Hi there, newbie here, please be gentle. flower.gif

My problem is that when I used Windows Movie Maker on my old computer with XP, I could move the volume slider to the right to increase the volume. With my Vista version of Windows Movie Maker, the volume slider's default setting is all the way to the right, so I cannot increase the volume. This is absolutely terrble, as I often want to increase the sound volume, either on a backing track, commentary or from the film footage. This is a normal thing done when movie editing, I cannot imagine for one second why Microsoft have bulit this with no ability to up the sound? Are there any fixes for this problem, if so your advice would be very much appreciated.

But if there really are no fixes, what if I install the old Windows Movie Maker onto my Vista laptop, how can ensure I run the XP WMM alongside the new vista WMM, rather than overwriting it. I definitely don't want to overwrite it, as the new Vista version does have some features I like. But I need to run the two side by side, so that I can use the old XP version of MM to up the volume when necessary (means of course rendering movies twice what a pain cry.gif , but will have to if no other option) if there or no fixes for the Vista WMM.

Hope that makes sense. Any help you can offer me would be very welcome.

Thanks so much

This is from the Help menu in Movie Maker under Windows XP:

To adjust the volume of an audio clip
1. On the Audio or Audio/Music track of the timeline, select the audio clip that you want to adjust the volume for.
2. On the Clip menu, point to Audio, and then click Volume.
3. To adjust the volume, do one of the following:
• To reduce the volume, move the Audio volume level slider to the left.
• To increase the volume, move the Audio volume level slider to the right.
• To mute the clip, select the Mute clip check box.
• To reset the volume to the original volume, click Reset.

I’m not sure if this would work in your situation, but you can go to Help, Help Topics, and under the Search tab type in “Volume settings” and see if this would help with your issue.

Thanks Dino, but this does not work in Vista MM, it only works for XP MM. I have this problem in Vista only, so that's what I need the fix for, not XP. The help unfortunately doesn't give a way to increase volumn in Vista, only decrease volumn. But thanks very much for your help anyway.

If anyone else knows a fix, do let me know. At the moment, I have had to installed WMM 2.6 and use it to increase the volumn where necessary, however, that is a real pain, I'd still like a fix if it's possible.

Thanks
