Hi all

Having a problem here trying to start up Windows 2000 on a Gateway PC. I get a message that says there is a problem with windows 2000 root\system32\ntoskrnl.exe and to reinstall.

I found the boot up files and copied them on another computer to floppy disks.

The computer booted up using the 4 disks but then asks me to insert the Windows 2000 CD-Rom, which I do not have.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Dan Penny
Does the machine start in Safe Mode?

To repair the O/S you will most likely need a Win2000 CD.

Even if you run sfc (System File Checker) you may be prompted for the CD.

If you're lucky, all your installer files will be in a folder labeled "I386" on your hard drive. When I'm prompted for my "Installation CD", I just point the installer to the I386 folder. The original "install from scratch" setup file is called WINNT.EXE in the I386 folder.

But then, my Win2K is running on a FAT32 hard drive, so I can navigate with a DOS bootdisk.
