I usually work in Print Layout in Word, rather than Normal view. I am editing a manuscript at the present, but one segment of the doc does not appear in Print Layout. When I change to Normal view it is there, but the edits I have made in previous chapters disappear.
I need to know what is going on, for when I send this back to the author, he has to be able to find all the changes I have made.
Can someone help me?
Thanks,
jandruz

Normal view doesn't usually show all the changes like images or tables and such, but I don't think I've ever heard of the opposite. Any chance that you can upload a sample so maybe we can peak? .

Thanks for your reply, Dashwood.
Wish I could send the file, but the material is yet to be published, so I cannot do that. The author is using Word 2003, whereas I am using Word 2002. Could this be part of the problem? I have never had a compatibility problem before.
I can work around this, but I hope that when I return the file the author will be able to see all the edits I have made. This is script only, no pictures.

Not even a tiny part that would mean nothing to me? Well I understand, but I'm very visual so if he/she allows you to let me know.
Either that or if you think you can change the wording on the part you cut out and save it as a new file. Even changing the words but not making any formating changes should preserve the defect you're experiencing. Copy a section (small is fine) and do a CTRL H replace. Change some of the words so it's gibberish!

Dashwood,
Thanks for your willingness to help. I tried to copy and paste a segment, which I intended to replace with gibberish. However, it will not copy, which is really strange to me! There are other editors working on this file, so I know that the author has been cutting and pasting.
Anyhow, I completed and sent the file back to the author today, hoping that my edits and comments show. If they do not, I will have wasted a significant amount of time.
If I knew how to reproduce the error, I would do so, but I don't have a clue. But if I need further assistance on this, I will be in touch.
