Ok so , I own an Intel Core 2 duo E6300 @ 1.86 GHz ( not been overclocked)

My mobo is an Intel D946GZIS

Now when i run this program called CoreTemp, it shows that my cores are at 65 & 63 degrees C.

Earlier they used to be about 52~53

So basically how do i improve cooling? Should I change the CPU Fan? coz I am still using the one I got with the machine ( this is not a shop bought machine btw).

And if I do need to change the cooling fan, how do I do it? any guides?

Is this problem only because of cooling? or could it be that the fan is dying? or there isn't enough power being supplied to it?

Thanks

63°C is way too high, especially for an Intel chip. I would not say that your chip is in immediate danger, meltdown and damage is around 90°, but it is understandable that you are concerned. Is that temp at idle or under load, say in gaming or playing a movie? First, make sure that you are getting an accurate reading; reboot into BIOS and see what the BIOS reports the CPU temp is (usually in PC_HEALTH). If you can find another software utility to run to report CPU temp, run it also. I know there are free ones out there.

Check in your case that there is no buildup of dust in the heatsink, and that the fan is running up to speed.

You can actually mount a larger-volume fan on your heatsink; the fan is easily removed separately from the heatsink by (usually) four small screws that just tighten down into the heatsink fins. Take it off, and try one that is advertised as moving more air volume. I have done this so many times I lost count. If fact, I have a drawer of old fans that I have removed from "throw-outs" through the years that I use when I want to swap fans. You can also purchase a new heatsinf/fan combo if you wish. Finally, check that the thermal grease is applied properly on the chip itself. Hope this helps!

In idle it's around 52~55, I guess it needs a clean up and maybe a fan replacement ...

any suggestions on heatsink/fan combo if the clean up doesn't solve the problem?

Thanks

If it was running cooler at first, you probably have a bunch of gunk in the heatsink, located just under the CPU fan as I described. Remove the fan and blow out the heatsink with a small can of compressed air or a soft, clean paintbrush. Clean the fan blades also. If this is the setup that came with the unit it should be running a lot cooler. Did you build this yourself or is it retail?

It was an assembled PC, but not assembled by me. Not a branded shop bought PC.

That's how most PCs are sold here in india >_<

Start with the easy stuff first. Clean it out and see if that helps. If the unit is still under some kind of warranty try that route next. You can remove the heatsink and reapply thermal grease and reinstall. Finally, look for a higher capacity fan and swap fans.

If still no joy, exchange the heatsink and fan setup for a more efficient one. For ideas, Newegg.com is a good place to start. I don't know what is available in your area, but at least you will have an idea.

my cores run between 58 and 68 depending on load and ambient temp. system temp between 32 and 40 depending on the same variables as above.

at this moment HW monitor is indicating 58 core and 35/34 system with no load and room temp about 78 f. all is normal.
