It doesnt respond to anything u press on the keybord except to restart it...Before, i tried to delete everything on the c drive using the boot disk... and it gave me troubles... i cant remeber what it said be cause now the boot disk doesnt do anything. And so my dad tried to fix it by putting every floppy disk in and doing watever to see if it worked. And I think its really screwed up now... how do i get it to even get to the command prompt? or install an operating system(preferably 98)? Dell Desktop or Laptop?

What is the exact model (number) of the Dell Machine? SERVICE TAG number?

Starting with your latest posted development, you tap the F8 key to get to the Windows 98 Startup Menu.

Can you get the menu this way and start in SAFE MODE?

SERVICE TAG Number?
I can't get very far into the Dell site without it, as it's a old machine.

steelersfan86
where would it be located at?
Dan Penny
How to locate your Service Tag;
http://support.dell.com/support/topics/glo...amp;~mode=popup

Or,
java script:winopen('/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?c=ca&docid=DAD1AFE6F90145549F7AA300E6671E47&l=en&s=gen','popup800x600',& #39;WIDTH=800,HEIGHT=600,RESIZABLE=YES,SCROLLBARS=YES,TOOLBAR=YES,STATUS=YES,MEN
U=YES,LEFT=0,TOP=20');
steelersfan86

Sorry, this one "slipped through the cracks".

If you haven't found the problem resolution yet, and you're still around;

Is your keyboard a

  2. USB
  3. wireless
Is your version of Win 98 the Standard version (sometimes called Win 98FE (First Edition), or is it Win 98 Second Edition?

Do you have the Dell 98 CD, or, a retail Win 98 CD?

This http://support.dell.com/support/topics/glo...=gen&~tab=2 didn't give me much information, nor did the troubleshooting steps on the Dell site. The above states there is a floppy drive on the machine. Is this correct?
