Does the connection drop while you're using the pc or when you away from it?
By default, eithernet adaptors have theit power saver turned on that can't cause this if you're away from the pc. Look in Device Manager properties to disbale the power saver.

I had this problem when I began using Sky broadband. I signed up for the 16Mb version but because of my distance from the exchange I can only get around 5 Mb. The Sky technicians set a max limit on my connection to just under 5 Mb and i've had no problems since.
Good luck with the sky helpline!
