I got a dell 8400. Puting new memory in it bought one 1g patriot memory card. Going to put another in it but my question is when i took the old out and put the new there are 4 slots to put cards does that mean i can put 4 memory cards at 1g each which will give me 4g or is that for like 4 512mb which will give me 2g can i have up to 4g.

I suggest you download and run siw.exe. Scroll down in the lefthand pane to memory where you will see all the information you need to install the maximum memory for your system.

Post back if you need more guidance.

Memory is the best bang for your buck too, so I suggest if possible you have as much as your system will handle.

Can look here http://www.crucial.com/ to see what the max amount of ram the pc will use.
