Full Version: Reinstalling Windows98 - Startup Floppy?

Just about to start reinstalling a Windows98SE machine. I've read the 'Rebuilding Windows 98' topic by Angoid, and that's useful. It says to boot up from the startup floppy, in order to format the hard drive. Is this startup floppy something that came with Windows98, or can I create it from the existing Windows98? I downloaded a bootable DOS6.22 image from bootdisk.com but that doesn't recognise the C: drive (but does recognise the CD-ROM, oddly). Thanks

Yes its true.... you can either use a usb device if your hardware supports it or you can go to http://bootdisk.com/ and get the bootdisk that you need. that site has been around forever and its a great resource just like this site!

hope that helped,

The hard disk is probably over 2 GB in size, and formatted to FAT32. DOS 6.x is FAT16, and can't "see" a FAT32 drive.

You can make your own 98 bootdisk from the 98 CD. Navigate to the tools\mtsutil\fat32ebd directory on the CD and run the fat32ebd.exe file.

Thanks Dan, that worked just fine.
