confused.gif I tried to fix my daughters IBM Aptiva's missing file,so I ran the red recovery disc. It erased the whole thing.When it starts back up it askes for the windows auth. number.I do not have or can not find it. I nevrer thought this would happen!! She was running windows 98, can I buy and install windows 98 upgrade to fix my blunder? I FELL SO BAD. thanks

I moved this topic to the Windows 98 forum. It sounds like you have a system restore disc instead of a standard Windows 98 installation disc, since it's "red". These will format the drive and start you from scratch, but then you need the serial number, which is usually on the sleeve or case that the disc is in.

Fortunately, you can still purchase Windows 98, and make sure you get the 2nd edition (latest). Not knowing your computer's specs, it may or may not upgrade to XP. You'll still need to find motherboard drivers for your Aptiva.
