Hi jackiescott,

There are a few things in your log that I don't like the look of.

Please run HijackThis and scan your system again as before, but this time check off the following items, taking care to ensure you get them all and no others by mistake:

O2 - BHO: cpmsky browser optimizer - {3b29ed03-e58c-9743-ee07-8da57b2169a6} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\{2a1a0219-25bf-9478-ceae-ddd3d096d2d8}.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BCA95E31-1FBF-4F84-8F23-1BA653007A1E} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [spa_start] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\{2a1a0219-25bf-9478-ceae-ddd3d096d2d8}.dll" DllInit
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe

When done, click on Fix Checked and exist HijackThis. Reboot.

Download Piriform Cleaner and install it onto your computer. Once installed, go to Options, then Advanced. UNcheck the box that says, "Only delete files in Windows temp folders older than 48 hours. Click on Cleaner again, and then Run Cleaner.

When it has finished, exit the program and reboot again. Post back a fresh HijackThis log.

Were you still getting the popups after the SuperAntiSpyware scan? By the looks of things, it was mainly 'tracking cookies' that it got rid of, which is percectly normal.
jackiescott
Hey,

Did as instructed. Here is the new report.
If this makes everthing A/C. I have a couple of other questions.
I have recently down loaded Zone Alarm Fire wall, as my system was running the standard WinXP firewall. Should i run them both or just the Zone Alarm? And if i have to disable the XP firewall could you please out line the steps for me to do it properly?

Also i have SuperAnti Spyware, Notron Antivirus, CCleaner and now ZoneAlarm fire wall. Can these all coexist peacefully whilst running together?

Many Thanks.

Oh, and the pop ups have stopped since running the Spyware program, although i still get some strange audio advertisements (only sound) every now and again.
Angoid
I'm at work so don't have time to re-analyse your log right now, but a couple of pointers for you:

1. You should only ever run one firewall, so it's either the Windows firewall OR ZoneAlarm, but not both together. When you install an alternative firewall, the Windows one turns itself off automatically and gives way to the new one. This is called degrading gracefully.

2. You should only ever have one resident anti-virus package running, but you can have as many anti-spyware packages running as you want. AV packages can interefere with each other, resulting in less protection instead of more, and an unstable system as well.

What are the strange audio advertisements you are getting?
jackiescott
No probs, i'll wait on your analysis whenever you get a chance.

So what Antivirus program do you recommend? Free if possible smile.gif

And the audio ads i was getting are fairly infrequent. Couple different ones, didn't particualrly listen, but i think one was promoting a brand of sporting gear......... beatsme.gif

Any way, will check on your response.
Thanks for your help.
jackiescott
Wondering if this log file is all A ok? Was asked previously to post it but never recieved a reply.....

Hi...I merged your new topic with the old one to avoid confusion.

The log looks clean. Is the computer behaving itself?
Angoid
In addition, to answer what AV packages I'd recommend amongst the freebies, I'd pick from one of these ones:

Grisoft AVG Free Edition
Avira Anti-Virus
Avast! Home Edition

Recently, the latter two have provided the better protection, but they're all reputable products.

But please do answer HKEd's question before downloading and installing an AV as it's important to get you fully clear before installing any new software.

Hey guys.
Yeah the computer has been running fine since the clean up, pop ups have gone. I just wanted to check that it hadn't missed anything.

Thanks very much for your help, you do a really good job. So if thats all ok i might down load one of the listed AV programs?
Ironbender
Yep ! You must. Surfing the net without any a/v may be dangerous.

I'd also recommend you some other protection freebies:

ZoneAlarm free Firewall from http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/comp...reeDownload.jsp (scroll down the page and get ZoneAlarm Firewall free basic protection, not the security suite trial)

Spybot S&D resident shield, from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

SpywareBlaster: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html (update the definition files on install and once a week after install)

SpywareGuard: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sgdownload.html

RegProt (warns every time a registry key is changed and allow to deny if suspicious): http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=regprot

Crazy Browser from http://www.crazybrowser.com/ instead of IE (although it needs the IE engine to run, it has built-in popup blocker and content filter). You may also consider FireFox.

With safe surfing and mailing habits (never let the mail preview pane enabled, as new baddies now comes embedded in the text or hidden scripts - delete any suspicious mail without viewing them), this will keep most baddies away. smile.gif
