Hello SuggestaFix!!

I have an issue with some jpeg files that were on a WindowsXP box that died on me, but I was able to salvage most of the files. Some files (.doc and .jpeg mostly) came across as corrupted (I think). The jpeg files have valid file size (1MB+). But the "little red X icon" is displayed when I try to to open it in MS Picture Manager, IE, tons of photo applications. The red x icon is displayed on thumbnails too. Also, I have tried viewing the images on windows 2000 and windows XP boxes now, and have ran CHKDSK on both windows too to see if windows could salvage 'em, but it did not.

I have downloaded some freeware data recovery apps but they didn't work. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it. If I could provide screenshots or anything to anyone. Or if you need further clarification, just let me know.

Thanks in advance

Unfortuantely I have never found a way to recover JPGs that have suffered such damage. Eitehr the file recovers or it doesn't. For me the ultimate test is Photoshop. If Photoshop can't even open the file then I consider it lost. Now it is possible that the files are intact but will require a "proper file recovery application" to rebuild thier file name structures properly. Many of the freeware applications are usefull but none I've yet found work as well as the commercial applications. Also they must be used on the origional drive and that drive has to have not had anything else written to it.
