When I boot up a computer that was donated to our school, I get the following messages:
Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run Windows or a Windows program.
The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exists.
If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the associated application using the uninstall or setup
program.
If you still want to use the application associated with this device file, try reinstalling that application to
replace the missing file.
turbovbf.vxd
We press a key at this point. Then it puts up the same message again and names this file:
C:\PROGRA~1\SYMANTEC\SYMEVNT.386
Again, we press a key and it finishes the boot up process.
It boots just fine after that and we haven't noticed any problems running any program we have installed. The second file looks to me like it is from a Norton's utility that was uninstalled, but the first one makes me think of a video driver or something similar.
I assume that the uninstalled programs were probably taken off before it was donated to us and we won't be trying to put them back on.
How can I get this fixed so it will boot completely without the stops for us to press a key?
