About a week ago my computer started moving very slow, this happened very fast, one day it was running normal speed and the next it was going slow. Even when i am not doing anything and just have my desktop open (im running XP) the computer is working at doing something, i can hear it working and the status light is continuously lit. I've ran multiple spyware, and virus scans, and tried cleaning out the computer, but to no avail.
I dont think the problem has anything to do with the hardware on my computer becuase it is pretty fast and is not that old.
If i had to guess id say that there is something in the background that is trying to load all the time, but i cant seem to find out what this is.
Thanks in advance for your help

If you bring up the task manager you can see what processes are running. I bet you it is explorer that is using up all the resources. I have had that problem on several XP machines. (I am assuming you are using XP) So far I have not found a way to fix this problem, I usually just get frusterated and reformat... assuming that some sort of Malware is attacking Explorer. After I try and use Firefox. If anyone alse has a solution for this I am equally interested.

i know explorer takes up alot of resources but this is a recent problem and ive always had and used explorer on this machine, with no previous problems

I am experiencing the same frequent hard drive running that leads to a very slow response to any access to the internet. I am running Internet Explorer 7 and Winows XP. The Windows Task Manager still shows 98% system idle. ??

Try to disable system restore, likewise deleting all previous restore points & enabling it again & create one & see if it would help.

PIC-at the top of our Malware forum is a pinned post explaining how to post a Hijack This log. HT is very handy for scanning for what is loading on boot.Scan a log and post it in the Malware forum with the same comment you had here. There may be nothing, or we may find a baddie using your computer as a drone.
