Hi yinyangmb, welcome to SAF

Did you intentionally install ContexTool from playmp3z.biz ? It's adware. Please go to your control panel, add-remove programs and uninstall it from there if listed.

Rename C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe to anything.exe you feel comfortable with (not starting with the word "Hijack"), as new baddies are now able to detect and hide from hijackthis.exe. Check here if you are unsure on how to do it: http://www.suggestafix.com/index.php?showtopic=16053

Download and run CrapCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/
Note: in CCleaner: go to <options/advanced> Uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours").

Download and install AVG Anti-Spyware from http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5 - (Please do not confuse it with AVG Antivirus, which is another thing. Scroll down the page and click the "download the free version" orange button). don't run it for scanning yet, just update it:

Double-click the icon on Desktop to launch AVGAS
You will need to update AVGAS to the latest definition files.
- On the top of the main screen click Shield
- Click the word active to change it to inactive
- On the top of the main screen click Update.
Then click on Start Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

When you have finished updating, EXIT AVGAS.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O2 - BHO: Media Holding Enterprises, LLC - {0D39A900-0F3A-4C29-A254-3E65244FDC34} - C:\Program Files\ContextTool\ContextTool-2.dll

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following folders and delete it:

C:\Program Files\ContextTool\

Exit Explorer, don't reboot yet.

Run AVG Anti-Spyware.
- Click Scanner
- Click on the Scan tab
- Click Complete System Scan to begin scanning.
When the scan is complete click Recommended Action and change it to Quarantine, then click Apply all actions
Once finished, click the Save report button, then click Save Report As. This will create a text file.

IMPORTANT! Do not save the report before you have clicked the Apply all actions button. If you do, the log that is created will indicate "No action taken", making it more difficult to interpret the report. So be sure you save it only AFTER clicking the "Apply all actions" button.

Make sure you know where to find this file again.

Note: If you are unable to run avgas in safe mode, restart in normal mode and perform a full system scan from there.

Restart in Normal Mode.

Post back a fresh HJT log along with the AVGAS report.

I'm still here I ran AVG last night, which took six hours. Then i thought I had saved the report but I can't find it. So I just started it again and should have it posted with the HJ log as soon as possible. Thank You thus far Chris.

What antivirus are you running if any ?
The log looks clean and Avgas shows nothing really bad... confused.gif

Are you still having problems with IE ?

Check your Control Panel/Internet Options/Connections/LAN Settings. UNcheck the box next to "Use a proxy server for your LAN". Close IE and restart it.

If it still won't work, you amy try this:

<Star/Run> type in cmd (enter)
At the command prompt, type in netsh winsock reset (enter)
restart your system.

If still no joy, you may try WinsockXPFix: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

Let me know how it goes.

Hey Chris,

Ran winsock cmd and restarted didn't work. Also, downloaded winsockfix and ran tried IE after restart nothing. I can open IE and it tries to connect but is comes up with window saying not a valid website. For Antivirus I'm using Defender Pro. Besides IE not connecting I'm not having any other problems????
Ironbender
Well, I don't really know Defender Pro... as far as I could gather around, it is based on the Kaspersky engine.

This issue seems to be very common with IE7, but I couldn't find any magic solution. Causes may vary from a bad Windows update, corrupted registry keys, firewall conflicts and many others.

I don't like IE7, so, I never installed it. If you uninstall it, it may revert to the previous version. A matter of choice though.

I use Crazy Browser, a tabbed browser with content filters which needs the IE engine installed to run, and never had any problem using it.

Unfortunately, I really don't know what else I can suggest you for now. beatsme.gif

It was a very good effort and as long as nothing harmful is present then im happy. smile.gif I'll take a look around at some other browsers and see if i come across one that suits I like. Again, Thank You for all your help Chris.

You are welcome. smile.gif I am moving this to another forum as maybe it will bring something up.

I have read many instances of this happening with IE7, and that uninstalling IE7 usually fixes it. I would do that, then install the Crazy Browser. I like Crazy Browser much more than IE7, which I uninstalled after using it for a couple of days. Crazy Browser rarely, if ever, crashes.
