A friend of ours told me that his brother-in-law's son, gave his brother-in-law a gadget that you plug your computer into, and you're on the Internet. (His brother-in-law's son is a Computer Engineering and a minor in Microbiology, and owns a business.) This gadget gets it's signal from the satellite, so there's no monthly bills from the cable co. or phone co. It's about the size of 2 cigarettes lighters.
Has anyone heard of this gadget?? I know our friend exaggerates sometimes. He did say he would check into it some more. When he asked his brother-in-law about it, he said he didn't know anything about it, except it works.

Its probably a wireless card that he either got from an ISP or he's stealing bandwith from his neighbors;)

Quite common, especially around apartment complexes and dorms.

Well, this person is out in the boonies, in fact I don't even think they have cable, he's way up North.
I will try to get more information. It'll be two or three weeks before our friends goes back up north.

I doubt its satellite, the Logos Hope uses satelite for internet connection at sea, and the dome containing the receiver is pretty big, about 3m diameter, so a tiny usb stick sounds a bit too good to be true, tho im prone to be wrong!

I use a satellite connection and my satellite dish is the same size as a TV satellite dish. I also live in the middle of nowhere very isolated from any other internet source. My guess would be that your friend is confused about the connection his BIL is getting and he's probably using a satellite dish with a wireless card setup.

Hi Annie
You know, that makes more sense. We'll see, when ever he goes back up North again.
