I have an HP zv6000 notebook with a dlink di-614+ router. The setup is the notebook is in the living room with the router also in the living room on top of a cabinet 10 feet away. I used to get excellent signal strength with fast internet speed and connection to other computers on the network. Now the signal strength is good with sluggish internet speed and connecting to other computers causes a freeze. I think this started after my wife took the notebook to school and couldn't connect to their network. Someone tried to configure the notebook but couldn't get it to work. I think they somehow screwed things up. When browsing available networks it shows five when originally there was just the default. I thought maybe deleting these other networks would work but I can't figure out how to do it. If I right click them there's no option to delete. If I delete the wireless device from device manager and reboot the signal comes back excellent but after 10 minutes it goes back to good and everything becomes sluggish.

Seem to have fixed it. I reinstalled the hp wireless assistant which had somehow vanished as well as updating the wireless driver and the firmware for the router. The signal so far has been staying at excellent. I also went into services and saw that tcip/netbios was set as manual and turned off. I set it to automatic and started it. I was able to browse the other computer with no problem. Hopefully this is a permanent fix that will last.

your other option is to change the channel on the router..... change it to either 6 or 11. If you have a 2.4GHz cordless phone that is going to be the issue.... your connection will get sluggish or drop when the phone rings.
