hey,
second question in here,
i read a lot about computer bleeps while booting
can anyone shortly summarise what they mean?
thanks
Steve R Jones
Pretty sure you meant to ask about Beeps....

The beeps mean different things based on who makes the BIOS chip.

AMI BIOS for example:

Audio Beep Errors:

Number of BeepsDescription of Problem Solution
1 beep->DRAM refresh failureTry re-seating the memory first. If the error still occurs, replace the memory with known good chips.
2 beeps->Parity Circuit Failure
3 beeps->Base 64K RAM failure
4 beeps->System Timer FailureSend System Board in for Repair
5 beeps->Processor Failure
6 beeps->Keyboard Controller / Gate A20 FailureTry re-seating the keyboard controller chip. If the error still occurs, replace the keyboard chip. If the error persists, check parts of the system relating to the keyboard, e.g. try another keyboard, check to see if the system has a keyboard fuse.
7 beeps->Virtual Mode Exception ErrorSend System Board in for Repair
8 beeps->Display Memory Read/Write FailureIndicates a memory error on the video adapter. Try re-seating the video card. If it still beeps, try replacing the video card or the memory on the video card.
9 beeps->ROM BIOS Checksum FailureIndicates faulty BIOS chip(s). It is not likely that this error can be corrected by re-seating the chips. Consult the motherboard supplier or an AMI product distributor for replacement part(s).
10 beeps->CMOS Shutdown Register Read/Write ErrorSend System Board in for Repair1 long 2 shortVideo failureReseat the video board - replace if board is determined to be faulty. 1 long 3 shortVideo failure1 longPOST passed. No Errors

yes indeed i meant the beeps.
however i have no idea what bios ive got.
can u tell me where to find it?
only information ive got is from the mobo installation disk: P4B533-X it says: -crash free BIOS 2 (Bios auto-recovery CD-ROM)
Steve R Jones
You can either see the BIOS name during bootup or go into the BIOS eek5.gif
lazyhorse
yeah,
ofcourse but the problem is my monitor isn't giving any reaction...
Platypus
The ASUS specification for P4B533-X shows AMI BIOS, so Steve's list should be relevant.

If your system doesn't boot to a visible screen, can we assume you're hearing a POST fault beep code?
lazyhorse
its fixed:) i heard 2 beeps.
my english isn't good enough and my knowledge of computer language to brief to understand the meaning of the beeps but am i right if i think it was power failure (mobo against the case somewhere)?
because that was the problem and its fixed niw
Platypus
If it corresponded with the 2-beep error in the list, then part of the memory circuit being grounded to the chassis could have given a parity error.

Glad to hear it's resolved.

Wikipedia on POST, including beep error codes.

Reminder, these codes are set by the BIOS manufacturer, so you may want to see their tech site for more precise info.
