hello.gif Hi every one at SAF flower.gif flower.gif ...

Nice to be back with you here after a long long while... now that the plasters are off and my wrist is on its way to recovery thru regular physio, I've started to tinker around with the stuff lying around at my place.

I used to run my pc [Pentium P4/ 2.4 GHz with 3 cooling fans] with some resource sapping Video addon cards, a CD writer and another DVD writer, all powered with a 300 W SMPS. Ranchand had suggested I use an SMPS rated around 600W. The best I managed to find and install is rated at 450 W. I have replaced the 300W SMPS with the nes 450 W SMPS.

I was wondering if I could use this spare 300W SMPS to exclusively power the CD writers and the floppy drives [Hard Disk???], while the 450 W SMPS could cater to the needs of the MOBO and the PCI cards. Is this possible? I shall be grateful if someone could enlighten me on how to accomplish this...

Thanks in advance

Sun

I doubt that would work-at least I have never known of anyone who succeeded. As far as I can figure, you would need a specially customized mainboard with two (2) power sockets, each one tied in to whatever peripherals you wanted it to run. Please do not try to "customize" two power supplies by trying to splice two cables together or something. You probably would blow both of them and fry your mainboard. 450 Watts should be plenty for what you have running.
