Wow, I've just wasted 20 minutes trying to figure out Picasa's way of listing photos on my hard drive. It found the C:\photographs\ directory but was could only read a few of the sub-directories

Rather than start trying them all out one by one, I thought I'd ask you guyz what's the best free photo sharing web site.

I vote Picasa but you already tried that one. You may want to run the search again but before that check to see if the folders are hidden or set to private.

at your suggestion i re-installed picasa 2 and ran it and lo and behold it showed all my photo file directories.
i then deleted some photos in picasa, then restored them from the trash bin, then closed picasa and re-opened it, thinking picasa would re-scan my photos and i'd be able to see the briefly-deleted ones again.
picasa was unable even to find the directory they're in...
...i give up

Thats wierd I will see if I can recreate this in some way and post how to get around this. It hasnt had a problem on my pc at all. If you have a website gallery2 is a great option to host your own online album.

this may be a solution:
- do Tools > Folder Manager
- select all your directories that have photos in them
- check the "Scan Always" radio button

that url also suggests checking View > Small Pictures

i'll let you know if there are more problems...if'n you don' hear from me, dat's good news...
