I have amain computer downstairs, and another one upstairs which wirelessly shares the internet connection. What i want to know is can i connect my laptop to the one upstairs via LAN cable so that my laptop can also use internet (dont have built in wireless). The laptop would be sharing it from a wireless pen drive. If so, how can i do it or will I just have to buy another pen drive for the laptop?

Thanks a lot in advance

I'd say that depends a lot on what operating system you are running... If you by any chance where running Linux I'd say YES it would be quite simple... If you are running Windows XP I think there is a function there to share an Internet connection so that should also work.

Windows 95, 98, ME will probably not work but NT XP and Vista will probably work.

Don't know about MAC but since the newer MACs are running a UNIX-based operating system it should probably work.

Yes, it will work. You probably can share it, but the best and most trouble-free thing is for your lap to have its own pen. Power down. Insert your pen drive, and power up. In XP or Vista, it should automatically find the drive and configure it. IF you have encrypted for protection of your network (you did encrypt for security, right??) you will have to type in your encryption key, and then all should be good.

You don't have wireless built in. So, what u can do is try to connect through lan. if it connects that's fine. if not configure the IP Address and then try to connect. compute.gif :
