Last time I didn't explain my situation very well.
Although I've been running a computer since 1998 I'm not very computer savy. I obviously don't know enough to update my computer. Please help.
Here's the deal:
Recently my computer went on the fritz and wouldn't even load Windows. All I would get was the "C" prompt. Somehow through smoke and mirrors I managed to get Windows working again with one exception. When I boot I get a red error message box that says something to the affect, "Unable to load antivirus protection. Your computer is unprotected." The only options are Close or OK. I've been clicking OK and the computer continues booting. A second time I get a similar error message and I click OK again. The final message coming up says LiveUpdate is not activated. I should uninstall and reinstall it.
Today I finally went to Symantic's website and found a faq section that ended in uninstall and reinstall and gave me directions how. It had me load a program called SymKBFix.msi onto my dest top which I did. When trying to run that I get an error message:
Error 1723. There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A DLL required for this install to be complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
Unfortunately I believe I am the support personnel. About 10 years ago a guy I worked with offered to "build me a computer". He asked what I wanted and what I wanted to be able to do. He purchased all the stuff individually and assembled if for me. Charged me the price of the equipment, software and $150. Seemed like a great deal at the time. He helped me with a few issues over the next couple of years. But, neither of us work at the same company anymore and I've made numerous, exhaustive, unsuccessful attempts to locate him.
I don't know how to move forward. Any help for this hack would be appreciated.
Thank you.
